In this step I cut the image in half and flipped it.
step 2 of 10
Here, I cut out the top portion of the image.
step 3 of 10
I then duplicated the original image and placed it beneath the flipped image so the sky would not be symmetrical.
step 4 of 10
I then changed the brightness and contrast of the image and also the levels and curves to make it look like it was night time.
step 5 of 10
Here, I made the sky even darker with a black overlay.
step 6 of 10
I created the portal using this tutorial. http://www.webdesign.org/photoshop/special-effects/portal-effect.3205.html
step 7 of 10
In this step I used the dodge tool to create some highlights from the portal. I also messed with the color balance a bit to make the image look more "uniform"
step 8 of 10
I then used the burn tool to create dark shadow for more contrast.
step 9 of 10
In this step I created the water and a reflection in it. I used this tutorial to create the water http://photoshopcontest.com/tutorials/26/displacement-water.html
step 10 of 10
In this step I added stars using a very small white brush at an opacity of 75%.
