Elliptical marquee tool to make a circle, then filled with dark gray. Copy, lighten and shrink. Hard brush and free hand for the clock hand. I made the scroll work with individual swirls, then copied and flipped them vertically.
step 2 of 25
Painted in the numbers
step 3 of 25
Added the minute hand. Used a natural brush with dodge and burn on the yellow background. Copied the light circle and shrunk it.
step 4 of 25
Using the pen tool, copy and flip, the design for the faceplate was made.
step 5 of 25
For everything but the faceplate design, I copied, used levels to darken, shifted to the right and then gently blurred the shadows. For the face plate, I used levels to darken and lighten copies. I shifted the dark layer and used a soft eraser to carefully erase the highlights away. I also used dodge and burn on the circles.
step 6 of 25
I used the rectagular and elliptical marquee tool and fill to make the shapes for the clock. I then cut it in half, copied and flipped to make the other side. Using the colors shown, I painted in the shading and reduced the opacity. I used dodge and burn on the cones at the top.
step 7 of 25
Freehand scroll work using same technique as before. Smudged the clock shading to form.
step 8 of 25
I used dodge and burn under the reduced opacity scroll work for shading.
step 9 of 25
Painted the scroll work for the towers. I used a reduced opacity paint for the shading. I also smudged the shading outline into shape.
step 10 of 25
I added the glass shine, latch and latch shadow.
step 11 of 25
Using paint, dodge and burn, I finished up the towers scroll work.
step 12 of 25
All of the following scroll work was accomplished in the same manner as before.
step 13 of 25
step 14 of 25
step 15 of 25
I wasn't exactly thinking ahead for this, so I had to improvise. To get the clock shape symmetrical, I painted a wavy "shadow" over the clock. I then very carefully erased the part of the clock covered by the shadow.
step 16 of 25
step 17 of 25
step 18 of 25
step 19 of 25
Dodge and burn on the pendulum. Painted, copied and shaded the links using dodge and burn. Big fuzzy brush and reduced opacity for the glass shine.
Outstanding.
