Using a perspective tool, the source is shaped into a triangle. At this point, I had no idea where this project would go. I'm just manipulating the shapes to see where it will lead.
step 2 of 20
Triangle is duplicated twice, then they are flipped and rotated and merged together.
step 3 of 20
The new shape with the 3 triangles is now duplicated, rotated and flipped to finally form a cirle.
step 4 of 20
A new design is made now from the circle by using filter, distort, polar coordinate, 100%, set at rectangulat to polar. This new design will be used to create the balloon further on.
step 5 of 20
Now another design is created with the circle of triangles by using filter/distort/wave. This shape will be used to create the trees.
step 6 of 20
Here the rectangular shape made with polar coordinate is liquify warped along top edge to use as distant horizon. This is the point where I decided to do a landscape with hills. Many layers will be overlapped to form the hills.
step 7 of 20
Many layers have now been added, with brightness and contrast adjustments being experimented with.
step 8 of 20
Now warmer colors are brought into closer hills. None of the hills are merged so that it is still easy to change individual hills colors and hues, and so that it will be easier to insert trees between layers as well.
step 9 of 20
Canvas is extended upward and a gradient layer is added for the sky. I choose gold and pale orange for a late-day feel.
step 10 of 20
Now trees are begun using the wavy circle design. Some branches and a trunk are brushed in with a hard, dark brush tool, then will be duplicated (alt key) and changed in color using color/balance and hue/satur tools. Trees will be scaled smaller for distance, larger for foreground.
step 11 of 20
Here many trees have been duplicated from this design and have been placed between layers of 'hills'. I learned to use the 'control [' and the 'control ] ' to moved trees between the layers, as number of layers grows.
step 12 of 20
With liquify warp tool, another tree shape is created, also to be added to foreground and into distance to resemble a tree farm of wooded area.
step 13 of 20
Trees are all in place now, but layers are still not merged since I often move things around, and I have in mind adding some animals and buildings which might have to fit into the layers and trees.
step 14 of 20
I've decided to add a hot air balloon, so take the rectangle formed early on, and use filter/distort/spherize to create the balloon. Corners will be trimmed away to leave just the sphere.
step 15 of 20
From one of the blocks in the source, a basket is formed using smudge, brush, and eraser tools. Then lines for cables are drawn with brush tool up to the balloon and noise texture added.
step 16 of 20
Here a little rider has been brushed in with brush tool. His clothes are from one of the blocks in the source.
step 17 of 20
The sun is added with an orange airbrushed color added, and barns are created from one of the square source blocks, then trimmed with brush tool. Straw is drawn in with brush tool. Perspective tool is used to give shape to the barn, then duplicated barn is scaled down and placed on a more distant hill. Silos will be added in the same way.
step 18 of 20
Here the balloon has been scaled larger and colors on it refined using smudge and paint tools. Then burn tool makes shadows.
step 19 of 20
Here the silos are in and horses have been brushed in with a brush tool, duplicated and scaled for more distant farm. Shadows are burned in where needed with shadows coming forward because of sun backlighting the scene.
step 20 of 20
Finally, filters in red/brown and in deep red are added at 15 and 10%. Brightness and contrast are are adjusted finally.
