step 1 of 12

The fans on the headpiece we created by:
1: Creating the cylinder then cutting it in half.
2: Extruding the fans from a single face of the cylinder along a curve.
3: Mirror geometry to complete the fans.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 1

step 2 of 12

Texturing the headpiece.

I UV mapped the headpiece by automatic mapping and then fine tuning the UV map.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 2

step 3 of 12

I painted the headpiece in photoshop.
This was then plugged into a MR MIA Material X as the colour.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 3

step 4 of 12

The face was created by extruding a plane along a single axis to create the basic shape.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 4

step 5 of 12

The face was then extruded out and the geometry was mirrored to create the full face.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 5

step 6 of 12

The faces UV map was planar mapped and then tweaked to separate the pieces.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 6

step 7 of 12

The UV snapshot to be imported into Photoshop.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 7

step 8 of 12

The fully painted UV map that was then plugged into a MR MIA Material X colour node.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 8

step 9 of 12

The helmet was created by deforming and cutting a sphere. This sphere was then extruded to give it thickness.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 9

step 10 of 12

The UV map for the helmet was an Automap and then tweaked using the UV editor.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 10

step 11 of 12

The final painted UV snapshot. The Japanese characters were translated English using Google translate and then pasted into Photoshop.

Creation of Samurai Mask: Step 11

step 12 of 12

The final scene is a box with a phong shader and 3 area lights. The holder is a extruded cylinder with a Black MIA Material with all reflectivity etc turned down.
