A pattern which will be made into the columns is started by duplicating the hydrant source. This will be scaled down, stretched with scale tool.
step 2 of 11
Zig zag, polar coordinate (rectangle) and textures filters were used along with many more duplications and resizings. It would be very difficult to show every step in this process.
step 3 of 11
Here the liquify warp tool is used to begin shape of the sculpture. I had no idea where I was going with this when I started. Just let your imagine lead you.
step 4 of 11
The woman's shape is refined now using eraser and smudge tools.
step 5 of 11
The hydrant sculpture is refined more with smudge and eraser tools, then desaturated to gray tones. Using color/balance and hue/saturation tools, the red tones are brought into it. I had tried using the sculpture with a lot of color and textures, but wasn't satisfied with it, so have done it over.
step 6 of 11
A colored background has been added but will be changed later. Patterned strips are added now and stretched up into columns. Some rounding has been done with polar coordinate tool, then burning on shadow side. Duplications of this column will be resized and moved into position. Ones toward back are darkened as they go back.
step 7 of 11
Here a piece of brick wall is lassoed, distorted into straight lines, duplicated until back brick wall is created. This was saved in edit/define pattern and will be usable later in projects.
step 8 of 11
Brick pattern is applied to back wall.
step 9 of 11
From patterns on file, a gray layer is added for the carpet and some shadows are being brushed in with soft gray.
step 10 of 11
Now red sculpture is placed, and pictures (different artistic filtered versions of the hydrant) are added to brick wall, slightly darkened to set them back. More shadows will be added to floor including some coming in from outside of scene
step 11 of 11
Have made a last minute edit on colors per a comment which I much appreciate. Also did some add'l work on shadows.
