Chopped section of source photo. Using smudge tool, parts of bird are being pulled out.
step 3 of 10
Branch is formed from vein in the leaf using smudge tool. More details will be added later.
step 4 of 10
Closeup of head being detailed using brush tool, smudge tool and eraser.
step 5 of 10
Here the bird has been flipped horizontally (edit/transform/flip hor) and stems of snow and leaves are being duplicated. They will be rotated and scaled to get sizes needed and angle that will help design the most. Also, closer stems will be more distinct than those further away using bright/contrast tool.
step 6 of 10
Winter trees image is added at 54 % opacity to set them back from featured bird and stems.
step 7 of 10
Dry brush filter is added to the winter trees to add off-focus appearance.
step 8 of 10
Here stems of leaves and snow are scaled and rotated for better composition. Stems have been carefully chopped to get rid of blue background.
step 9 of 10
Now the robin details have been finished, branch is refined using brush and eraser tools, and snow is cloned from source twig/snow source.
step 10 of 10
Snow pattern layer is added finally and reduced to 15% opacity trying to keep background visible, but also giving the image the look of a late spring snow.
