bevel emboss a simple star and distort it into a platform, you will warp the crap out of it later on to give it more of a clawing appearance... add a slight drop shadow to give it some depth

use the disk with divide and it will scream/whisper bubble around the partical figure

create a simple scream with a white gradient triangle, and blur it with gauss and then burn the sides and blend it with a 36% opacity
