step 1 of 14

Statue is chopped with magnetic lasso tool and eraser tool and placed on a new canvas 10 x 15

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 1

step 2 of 14

To change color of statue draping, a duplicate is made (alt key) and on duplicate the areas not to be changed are removed with eraser tool. I missed the foot, but later changed it. Next the draping has blues added with the color adj tool.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 2

step 3 of 14

Here the blue draping is moved over statue and merged. Folds will be highlighted with dodge tool, and back of statue will be shaded with burn tool. Some of the hair tips will be slightly extended using smudge tool and face will be slightly darkened around nose and eyes w burn/shadows.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 3

step 4 of 14

Source is liquify-warped into interesting design which will be scaled horizontally into a narrow strip. This strip will be duplicated, flipped, then merged.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 4

step 5 of 14

Here the duplicating and flipping has been started. The merged strip is again duplicated several times to be merged with first strip.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 5

step 6 of 14

Duplicating has been repeated until very narrow strips of the design create this background. A gradient layer is then added over the completed design. The lighter yellow of this pastel gradient is placed at the top which will be highlighted later.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 6

step 7 of 14

The background just completed is moved into canvas with statue, sending it to the back layer. Next, the base of statue is selected with magnetic lasso tool, then duplicated w alt key, and scaled larger to add below original base. The selected piece is duplicated once again and scaled larger for bottom tier of base. Deselect lasso now. Some smudging will smooth any discrepency between the tiers. They don't need merged because they automatically stay in place using this method.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 7

step 8 of 14

A stem is brushed in with a green brush, setting up a flowing design from bottom left, going behind statue, then flowing up to right above statue. A smaller downward stem will also be placed near bottom right.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 8

step 9 of 14

These are basic flower petals which I have designed and which will be used to create flowers for this arrangement. Light vein lines are all made with dodge tool set at very low, hard setting.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 9

step 10 of 14

Petals are moved into a flower shape using rotate tool, then yellow center is brushed in w airbrush/dissolve.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 10

step 11 of 14

Blue flowers have been duplicated, some scaled smaller, and often rotating the duplicates to help turn flowers to proper angles. Leaves are drawn in with brush and trimmed with eraser tool, then dodged veins added, then shadowed with burn tool.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 11

step 12 of 14

The two top corners of background have been liquifiy-warped to create curved design, then darkened using soft airbrush with colors taken from darker spots in background. The base of background around base of statue is also liquify-warped in sideways direction then burned w burn tool for shadows.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 12

step 13 of 14

One of the rose shapes at top of background is lassoed and chopped to be duplicated for background interest. These roses will be scaled to various sizes and color changed to sort of blend in with background colors, then reduced in opacity to 75 - 80%. These should not be too noticeable in background, but just break it up a bit.

Creation of Arrangement in Blue: Step 13

step 14 of 14

Finally, dodge tool is lightly used at top of background to give a little additional light there.
