step 1 of 10

From gold dome in source, a bird shape is made using the liquify warp tool. From another dome the tail will be shaped like feathers.

Creation of A Roosting Place for the Night: Step 1

step 2 of 10

Tail section is started here with liquify warp tool used to form feather shapes.

Creation of A Roosting Place for the Night: Step 2

step 3 of 10

Tail formation is duplicated and scaled to smaller sizes to be rotated and layered to form a more dimensional tail.

Creation of A Roosting Place for the Night: Step 3

step 4 of 10

Color is added to layers of tail and to wing before merging onto bird body.

Creation of A Roosting Place for the Night: Step 4

step 5 of 10

Tail and wings are merged here onto the body.

step 6 of 10

Canvas has been enlarged here, a red background has been added with cloud difference (I will change color again later) The gold dome has been lassoed and chopped and added to bottom of canvas.

step 7 of 10

Now the ornament on top of the dome has been lassoed, and while still in lasso stage, is scaled to a larger size to make the bird's roost. The loop on top is made into a ball using brush tool, then chopping is finished and colors put on ball using clone tool so that colors match the rest of the ornament.

Creation of A Roosting Place for the Night: Step 7

step 8 of 10

Ball is finished, and the bird's feet are created using a smudge and the brush tools.

step 9 of 10

Again using the gold dome, little circles are made by making a half circle from the dome, duplicating it, then flipping it vertically before merging the two halves together. These circles are again duplicated and layered after they are rotated, so that the little 'antennae' are all around the circle. The 'antennae' are also isolated and duplicated to form snowflake-like stars. All stars are scaled to different sizes, then colored in different ways, reducing some in brightness and contrast.

step 10 of 10

Edited out mosaic section of building. Had struggled with whether or not to use that area, but after good advice from Dan L. decided it was really not needed.
