Background building photo is scaled to fit canvas, then bird is chopped using background eraser tool,then it is duplicated and flipped horizontally.

Hair on left chicken is changed to represent the woman in American Gothic using clone and smudge tools. The man in 'Gothic' is mostly bald, so 'hair' is erased except for edges. The window at top of building has also had a cathedral-type top brushed in as in the Gothic painting.

Hair on 'woman' is changed to yellow and some smudging done to represent hair. Feathers have been added with clone tool to other bird and a pitchfork added for him to 'hold' using brush tool.
step 5 of 6
Trees and other background items are erased around the barn background, then sides of building extended with clone and brush tools. A sold layer of light blue/green is added for the sky, and a filter/render/clouds added to it. Next round trees as in the Gothic painting are added in overlapped fashion using hard brush tool in varying shades of gree.
step 6 of 6
After adding a weather vane at top of building with the brush tool, a little more blue is added to color of building, then the resolution is lowered.
