After overlaying and piecing the three warrior images to compose my own standing position, masked figure and placed in the setting. Cut out the doorway and broken wood, and placed snowstorm image behind. Image is of the source pieces used.
step 2 of 8
Boots were created from spider leg, using puppet warp (I think this is my new favorite tool after the Pen tool!)
step 3 of 8
The hood collar was warped into shape, and the edge fur pulled from the original with a small hard smudge tool
step 4 of 8
Coat was made by piecing together several duplicated sections of spider body. Edges pulled with smudge tool to create furry edges.
step 5 of 8
Gloves were taken from source, puppet warped to shape. Dodge, burn, and paint created shadows and contours.
step 6 of 8
Fire taken from background section. Reshaped, warped into flame shape, unsharp mask applied. The section of wall was duplicated and placed on top of the flame to make it appear as if it was burning from inside.
step 7 of 8
Snow was accomplished a couple of ways: entire figure was selected, shape filled with white, and eraser set to spatter brush. Second layer used a paint brush set to same spatter brush and white flecks painted on. Blending mode and opacity changed. One snow layer was placed under orange and yellow color layers, and one snow layer above the colors to retain some of the snow's whiteness.
step 8 of 8
Figure was duplicated, desaturated, levels changed until it was black. Shape warped to fit along floor and up the wall. Gaussian blur and lower opacity finished the shadow.
