Use the circle tool to make a circle. Then create a line. Vertically center the circle and line. Then duplicate and rotate the line so you split your circle into 6ths.
step 3 of 11
Merge the circle and all three lines, so now your only layers should be the original image and the circle/line merged layer. Use the magic wand to select one of the 1/6 pieces. Copy this selection. Create a new layer with just the 1/6 piece. Then hide the merged layer.
step 4 of 11
Rotate and resize this piece to encompass the section of the flower which you want to use for the kaleidoscope. Set the layer to overlay so you can really see what you are selecting.
step 5 of 11
Select the section. Cut and paste into a new image. Create a line. Rotate the section so that the line is bisecting it.
step 6 of 11
Now rotate the section so that one edge is aligned with the line.
step 7 of 11
Duplicate and reflect.
step 8 of 11
Merge these pieces. Duplicate them and rotationally reflect them.
step 9 of 11
Move everything around so it fits together right. Merge the flower layers and ctrl+click the merged layer in the layer window to create a selection. Use the speherize tool about 35% to give the effect that it is coming from a sphere-lensed kaleidoscope.
step 10 of 11
Add the original image behind your kaleidoscope image and create a black stroke around the kaleidoscope image.
Use curves, levels, and hue/saturation, and blur to make the background less prominent. If the stroke is rough like mine was, add a black circle behind the stroke to make it look smoother.
