made small grid, kept copying, moving, and merging to get a larger one, then perspective transformed and well as blurring a bit.

I did the same steps when I was going to enter this contest (but finally I didn't have enough time) except one thing, and I think it's critical to achieve the correct Tron effect IMO. If you look closely to Tron images, you can see there is just pure white at the highest brightness level in the center of neon lines. In your case, you made it different because I can see a light blue color in the center. A bit more glowing and saturated neon lines will be more accurate. Still a nice try and beautiful motion you made, congrats!
