Make the obj editable and then start to do some matrix extrudes on different levels
step 4 of 19
Change properties of extrude to what is shown below
step 5 of 19
After a bit of work you should have the basic shape formed
step 6 of 19
Place this into a hyper nurbs to smooth it out and then add a hair obj to the object.
step 7 of 19
Before the hair is adapted this is the basic look.
step 8 of 19
Slowly trying to make it more realtitic by increasing the hair count and changing the material properties
step 9 of 19
Looking much better with a light source, soft shadows and some more adjustments to the hair and a bark material for the wood.
step 10 of 19
I was happy with the concept and then decided I needed a better base, so started again, the same idea except the first cone now has a twist and more height levels and many more branches.
step 11 of 19
You can see it looks much better now.
step 12 of 19
Started work on more of the scene objects, this is the stocking, a basic cube at first with some poly modeling to create the shape, fairly basic
step 13 of 19
More complex than the stocking since it has many more part but this is the fire grill and its parts mostly cubes and some sweeps.
step 14 of 19
Building blocks of the fire place next, again its pretty much the arrangement of cubes with tapered edges and a boole for the fire gap.
step 15 of 19
Additional detail in the form of some decorated pillars add to the fireplace.
step 16 of 19
Bit of a jump here, I added everything into the same scene and made some simple logs from cylinders which were bashed a bit and a rug. Also the presents. and Room, still pretty much just putting it together.
step 17 of 19
Decorative ribbons on the wall made from sweeps along long bent helix splines to give more feel.
step 18 of 19
Tree decorations in the form of baulbulls and lights
step 19 of 19
The final stage was just adding more detials. The Merry Christmas Banner which was a text obj with a circle sweep and a cube backboard.
Candy canes were cylinders with a bend modifier on them.
Ring loops to hold up the ribbons.
