Cut out the portion of the helmet that would be used to create the image.
step 4 of 22
I created an action so as to duplicate and position the helmet to create the shape required. This was then duplicated and transformed.
step 5 of 22
Body was then roughly placed into position.
step 6 of 22
A new action was created for the head. Again I duplicated it and transformed it.
step 7 of 22
Head was the placed into position.
step 8 of 22
The beak was made by just stretching the helmet. The eye is another action made to create a circle.
step 9 of 22
They were then put into position.
step 10 of 22
Started working on the wings. Again new actions were created.
step 11 of 22
They were position and with a little bit of masking my bird was taking shape.
step 12 of 22
Next came the tail. As always another action was created.
step 13 of 22
Next came the claws. These are made by stretching the helmet and placing one end to end. I then used Polar Coordinates to loop them. Duplicated and placed where required.
step 14 of 22
Next came the flower and stem. The stem is just the helmet stretched and warped. The flower petals is another action, then duplicated and flipped.
step 15 of 22
Flower and stem put into position.
step 16 of 22
This is the finished bird and flower prior to making any color adjustments. These will be made with only adjustment layers.
step 17 of 22
I started by coloring the flower and stem. These were done only using Color Balance and Brightness/Contrast.
step 18 of 22
The body and head came next. These were done using Color Balance and Levels.
step 19 of 22
The beak then got a Levels tweak. The eye received Levels and Brightness/Contrast.
step 20 of 22
Lastly the wings and tail needed their color. These were achieved with Color Balance, Brightness/Contrast and Levels.
step 21 of 22
To finish the image I sharpened it with a High Pass Filter and also added a Soft Light layer and Overlay Layer.
I hope this SBS helped explain how it was done.
