In this step, I did not use a brush. I just set the smoke image source I found to screen and played with the hue and saturation to get an orange color.

I took the "black hole" image and changed the brightness and hue and saturation and set the blending mode to color dodge.

I then duplicated the previos step and changed the blending mode from color dodge to lighten.

Here I finalized the flaming wing by duplicating the previous two steps.

Created difference clouds, set them to screen and stretched them. I also messed with the perspective.

duplicated the last step to give the clouds more contrast.
