I created a blue gradient in a new document to build into the desktop.
step 3 of 14
To add to the background I added some waves using the pen tool and by filling the path.
step 4 of 14
To add even more to the background I added in some synthetic bokeh by using the brush tool at 90% hardness and varying opacities.
step 5 of 14
Ater this a added in a toolbar at the bottom and changed the blending mode to hue and fill at 75% I sourced the colour from the kettle so that it would match.
step 6 of 14
To make the toolbar look as though it is not part of the wallpaper I blurred the bokeh and waves that were underneath using gaussian blur.
step 7 of 14
I added a small version of the kettle as a start button and gave in an outer bevel to stand out.
step 8 of 14
I then added a kettle in the middle of the wallpaper to signify the Kettle OS, giving it a slight tilt to make it fit in with the non linear wallpaper. And adding the letters OS next to is so that it reads "Kettle OS".
step 9 of 14
To make the kettle fit in better with the wallpaper I added more synthetic bokeh, but coming from the spout. I used a slightly larger brush to make it stand out from the other bokeh.
step 10 of 14
I reduced the opacity of the background bokeh because I felt that it was too dominant in the image.
step 11 of 14
I then added the Kettle bin so that you can boil the files you don't need :) I added an outer glow to the writing in order for it to stand out. I changed the writing to just "kettle" after I had finished.
step 12 of 14
I then decided that I wasn't happy with the gradient so I created a better one.
step 13 of 14
To fill in more space on the toolbar I added in a time and date.
step 14 of 14
To finish off the toolbar and the image I drew in a signal meter next to the time.
