I drew a spline and used lathe nurbs to create the glas.

Two very simple cylinders with rounded edges make the base and the top.

The background is a spline arc with extrude nurbs.

After making the extrude nurbs editable, I extended the ends.

I usually work with 3 point lights. Here you can see a back light (spot), left is the main light and on the right I put a bluish fill light.

I created two cloner objects with tiny spheres, made them rigid and added a multishader.

To make it more interesting, I also put a cloner outside the glass.
Then I just let everything drop (of course all the other objects must be collision objects) and looked out for the nicest frame.
