In Contest:
hour glass
step 1 of 11
Created the "feets" of the hourglass. I created a simple line and used lathe on it.

Created the up and down side of it. it is a simple cilinder with some modification.

Created a sphere and pushed it a bit together.

Created a line and used lathe on it, this is the body of the glass.

For some realistic sand i exported the body to realflow program and after some tests simulations i created some particle flow in it.

As you can see on the picture it took 2 hours and 5 minute until the simulation finished.
There were about 60.000 particles in the scene.

After the simulation i imported it back to 3ds max and placed the particles to the right place.

Then i setuped the scene, putted 3 lights in the scene, the one in the middle had the strongest light.
And i have putted a vraycam into the scene.

I have created the glass material in 3ds max.

This is the material of the feets. Just a dark brown color with some reflection.

This is the material of the sand.
Nothing special just gave it a light brown color.
