Creation of Warrior: Step 1

step 2 of 5

By using different adjustment layers, you can shade and lighten the parts. For this piece, I used exposure to lighten and levels to darken.

I shaped the wood, then used a natural brush and smudge, with the flow set around 75% to make the fur.

step 3 of 5

I used the wood again to make the shaft of the spear and also, the cape. I used Filter > Blur > Surface Blur to give the wood a soft leather look.

I used a piece of the shell to make the spear head.

You'll also notice the arms and legs are different in color. I played around with the color balance to achieve a greenish color for one piece, then used Image > Adjustment > Match Color on the rest of them.

This shows the shading using adjustment layers.

Creation of Warrior: Step 4

step 5 of 5

I put a color overlay on the background and also played around with the brightness/contrast.

I made the shadow by making a copy of the warrior and then Image > Levels and sliding the Output Levels all the way to the left. This makes a perfect silhouette. Then I used distort and gaussian blur.
