step 2 of 10
Background photo (my own)
step 3 of 10
Arch has been chopped, then steps are shown here for beginning owl head. Smudge tool is used to 'pull' feathers out of rock edges.
step 4 of 10
Section of arch used for head is also duplicated, rotated and sized to be used in building the body of the owl.
step 5 of 10
Tail has been added using same arch shape, then eyes are extracted from source photo and added.
step 6 of 10
Circle around eyes is started here using one piece of rock from the arch source.
step 7 of 10
Eyes have been finished with burning and dodging to add more shape. Also, top of head is being added with lighter part of the pattern used for the feathers.
step 8 of 10
Rocks are being selected from arch source to form the tree.
step 9 of 10
Tree is completed, then feet will be added to the owl with the paint brush tool, using burn tool to shade it.
step 10 of 10
Background photo has been added on layer behind owl and tree, then color changed with hue/saturation and color tools to create a night time atmosphere. Also, the tall tree was cloned out, so that the owl and tree would be featured. Filter/render/lighting effect was used to get the circular light shape in the sky.
