Beginning the Confederate flag. I used the pen tool to make the "X."
step 2 of 20
The newly created "X" shape was filled with blue on a separate layer. A triangle shape, once again made with the pen tool was created.
step 3 of 20
The triangle shape was filled with red (on separate layer), duplicated and flipped horizontally then positioned.
step 4 of 20
With the pen tool I made this star shape and filled with white. This layer was cloned several times and each new star layer was positioned.
step 5 of 20
With the stars in this configuration I placed these layers into a group.
step 6 of 20
The star group was duplicated and flipped horizontally. Here is the finished flag.
step 7 of 20
To make the US flag I started with a B'G layer of white. Over this I made a layer of stripes (with the rectangle marquee tool) These "stripes were filled with red color.
step 8 of 20
With the rectangle marquee selection, on another layer filled with blue.
step 9 of 20
Using the pen too I made a star shape.
step 10 of 20
The "Star" shape filled with white color(separate layer). The star was duplicated and arranged into rows like this, creating my base layer of stars.
step 11 of 20
With my base layer of stars complete it was cloned several times and each consecutive layer positioned. Here is the finished flag.
step 12 of 20
Over a background layer filled with 50% gray I made each letter of the word OUTLAW, individually (a lighter gray color than B/G ) . The font "28 Days Later" was used see link below.
With the letters aligned I merged their layers into 1 layer. To this arrangement I applied 3 layer styles: inner shadow, Inner glow and bevel/emboss. This gave the word some dimension.
step 14 of 20
Here is the finished displacement map with its future texture. (layer opacity of the flag was lowered in order too size and align the texture)
This is the finished displacement. The flag texture layer at full opacity was clipped to the word "OUTLAW." The newly colorized text was re- sized for composition.
step 17 of 20
For the US flag's displacement map I made this by using the gradient fill tool. The shades of the gradient were set with varying shades of gray, light to dark.
step 18 of 20
The completed distortion.
step 19 of 20
The finished displaced features are position over a layer of black. Some embellishments added. (used paint brush)
step 20 of 20
The refection was made by copying the elements and transforming them vertically. Those layers were merged into 1 and positioned beneath the original. A layer mask with a gradient (black to white) fill was applied to this layer and it's opacity was lowered slightly.
