Converted the original source file to a layer and then deleted the background using magic wand tool in combination with polygon lasso tool to add or remove unwanted pixels.

Copied one of the larger feathers to a new layer and then used clone stamp tool and brush tool to make one separate feather which will be used to create tail feathers.
step 3 of 6
Imported the background image. Used clone stamp tool to remove the unwanted parts from the source image. Then rescaled eagle layer and placed it over background at desired position.

Copied the earlier created separate feather to various layers and placed them one over another and transformed them all to give it overall shape of tail feathers. Light is coming from left direction so, to compliment that then used drop shadow on different feathers from same direction. Then removes unwanted part from tail feathers to make it look like they are coming out from under the body fur. Then merged all layers to mail eagle layer.

Added shadow of eagle in a layer below the eagle layer by drawing black using soft brush tool and then lowering the opacity of layer..

The eagle looks too exposed compared to BG. That could be fixed using levels or curves but I chose to use layers instead. This way I dont have to modify the original layer and if I feel the need I can modify the layers later to change the effect. Used two different layers to add darker and lighter color corrections and then on top of that used a layer to adjust lighting of eagle layer to make it look darker on the other side of light source from background image.
