The egg is a sphere which has been reshaped using the FFD 4X4 modifier.

For the blades of grass I made a plane and shaped it by altering some of the vertices. There is also a bend modifier used.

The new grass blade was cloned several times and each one was sized and positioned.

Materials for the egg and grass were made in CS5.

The texture's applied using a UVW Map. A plane was used to catch some shadow from a mental ray skylight, it has the Matte/Shadow/Reflection material on it with the background set as camera bitmap. Camera matched with the mushroom scene as background and environment.
