With the pen tool I made shapes to form the sides and shading for my cube. The shapes were filled with 50% gray color. The opacity of these layers was lowered.

With the 3D function:; make sphere, using the Earth Color and Bump maps from linked source, the Photoshop earth was made.

The Earth render was then arranged within the layers that were made to form the cube. Highlights and shadows added to the earth.

Drew shapes for legs with pen tool filled them with color then added shading using the dodge and burn tools.

Brushed in some color beneath the cube for light and shadow.

Earth's reflections added to the "Cube." The previously rendered earth was rotated so too expose the sides needed for samples to be used for the reflections.

The Starfield (background)source layer blend mode id pin light. The comet was painted with brush and smudge tools on a seperate layer.
