To create text I used Autodesk 3DMax. Here is the setup.

Rendered text from 3D Max(YU Gothic light) was placed in scene. A levels adjustment layer added affixed to the text layer.

Star-field back ground: opacity set @ 30% and vivid light as the blend mode.

Spaceman layer masked and flipped horizontally. A brightness/contrast adjustment layer fixed to this layer. The dodge and burn tools used to adjust shading.
The helmet visor was corrected with brush tools to create the star reflection in it, instead of the Space Shuttle.

The "sun" is a combination of photoshop lens flare filter and brushes. Layer blend mode is pin light and the opacity is 60%.

The "moons" layer masked. Each has a brightness/contrast adjustment layer fixed to it.
