A Work in Progress: The Dude in the 17th Century

I wanted a simulated paint texture to apply over the finished image. I wanted to set it up as a seamless pattern so I could use it as a layer style and control the scale as necessary.

I scaled the image to a 600 pixels per inch resolution
and cropped out a 1024 by 1024 square to work with
Then used the Filter, Other, Offset set to +512 for both Horizontal and Vertical.

I then used the spot healing brush tool to cover up the middle vertical and horizontal areas
also healed a few random darker spots I didn't like. I put them on a separate layer here so you can see them.

Here's the resulting seamless pattern. I then chose Edit Define Pattern

Here is a close up to show the resulting texture, which was applied late in the process. I applied a multiply blend and reduced the scale to 55% and the opacity to 22%
