Dang......I meant to give you 5 thumbs up and forgot. I will do this on another of your photos OK?!
(5 years and 222 days ago)
Yes, I understand however the reason why my brain doesn't calibrate the image is quite basic. There is within this photo a visual weight imbalance, meaning everything is to the right (patterns and all) and it is outside of the frame making me think it will tip right out and all those patterns on the edge just take my eye right out of the photo.
In our photography courses, our prof once told us to worry when NOBODY mentions a thing about your picture. So, your photo generated thought and discussion and I thank you for that, I just wish this kind of exchange would happen more often on this site.

Shows why Wikipedia is NOT a reliable source, although Golliwogs do have racist roots.

Thank you

Actually, it did... thus the initial question. I didn't mean people would sit and consciously contemplate about it for hours (or even minutes, or seconds). But the mind decodes data by looking for patterns it has seen before. If it's something completely new, it tries to manage meaning and make it make sense (not always successfully). If it's something kind of familiar (like a plate of food) but doesn't easily fit, it wonders, get's agitated, or whatever, making it ask, "I wonder why it doesn't do X?"

Awwwwww he's not bad, he's just doing his job and he is sweet. Nice photo
(5 years and 222 days ago)
They like to snack too! Thank you.
(5 years and 222 days ago)
They are sweet potato...the ones with purple skin....and these will break your teeth...but are good. Vietnamese product . Thank you.
(5 years and 222 days ago)
I appreciate you telling me that ....although I do not agree it has made me think! (a good thing for a change).
(5 years and 222 days ago)
Thank you for your comments. There is a posterize filter I applied slightly to the entire sh-bang.
(5 years and 222 days ago)
I was hoping you noticed it! Thank you for your comments, which I appreciate.
(5 years and 222 days ago)
fattening
(5 years and 222 days ago)
I think the fly adds to the shot
(5 years and 222 days ago)
Nice DOF. I like how the colors between foreground and background interact as well.
(5 years and 222 days ago)
Obviously not American, or they'd be "fries." Nice, shot, though.
(5 years and 222 days ago)
Thank you
(5 years and 222 days ago)
Thank you

Yeah, they're good. But don't put too much honey (like in the picture ). I cropped it like that because a normal crop would just be a picture of a plate of food, but by cutting off a little it creates dissonance and makes you look longer, with your brain wanting completion.
(5 years and 222 days ago)
Good! Even if the fly makes it a little less appetizing …
(5 years and 222 days ago)
I like the focus, nice ...
(5 years and 222 days ago)
interesting..
(5 years and 222 days ago)
great shutter speed, great photo.
(5 years and 223 days ago)
Top notch. Lovely
(5 years and 223 days ago)
This time I think if I crop the photo becomes vertical and I don't love it very much..but thanks for your attention !
(5 years and 223 days ago)
I thought so, but why? What was your reason for doing so?
(5 years and 224 days ago)
Thanks (cropped it like that on purpose)
(5 years and 224 days ago)
Thank you
(5 years and 224 days ago)
YUM YUM YUM I would buy this in a heartbeat and the mug too! I would have liked a tighter crop to eliminate that black line up top but that is just me...it is a great snack photo. Thumbs up.
(5 years and 224 days ago)
LORD stop the beating of my heart! I have to try this when I get home. I would have liked to see more but you cropped it off
(5 years and 224 days ago)
I want to DIVE right into this...errr, these. Blueberry melons, the newest Japanese invention....Love THIS.
(5 years and 224 days ago)
Yes fair comments
(5 years and 225 days ago)
Nice action shot this
(5 years and 225 days ago)
Thanks! I would really like to come there
(5 years and 225 days ago)
Yes, I use Photomatix also and also Nik software for HDR....so much out there now. By the way, the flight from Rome to Bangkok is about 9 hours! We are waiting for you. (Chiang Mai is another hour flight north)
(5 years and 225 days ago)
Thanks Olga
I used 3 shots, exposure 0, -2ev, +2ev (see the sbs), blended in an old free version of Photomatix.
You too live in a very beautiful place, I would like to visit the Far East, perhaps one day, if the ailments of old age will allow me.
I'll be waiting for you in Rome, I'll be happy to be your guide

I like the monochrome for it is well done with good tonal ranges. I do think that the umpire lacks a certain sparkle, standing like a telephone pole showing no emotion at all with back to us. Technically you have a huge dust spot by his cap and that needs to be removed. Formatting him into the rule of 3's helps but doesn't save the image.
(5 years and 225 days ago)
Your high dynamic range is well worked and gives the image depth without that "overcooked" feel (which some of us love). What EV exposure did you use? The pundits recommend a +2EV and -2EV. And what software did you use to blend your images? You are lucky to be living here inside a living museum. I loved Rome and the people were wonderful to us....we must go back there one of these days while we are still on this side of the grass

Painfull
(5 years and 226 days ago)
Agree, it is a bit pastel looking. Sometimes the softness of pastel soothes the beating heart. .......
(5 years and 226 days ago)
When I took the hotel sign out he looked misplaced so I chopped him out too!
(5 years and 226 days ago)
Think I ment that its a bit pastel looking and the colours needed to be stronger, you might agree or not
(5 years and 226 days ago)
but wheres the man, only ment the sign
(5 years and 226 days ago)
thank you all

Thank you Brian. I'm in touch with Sri Lanka....our "son" writes to us but never mentions the bombings.
(5 years and 226 days ago)
Thank you Brian.

Cropped the beegeebees outta this one. Thank you.
(5 years and 226 days ago)
I "ooooomphed" it with a glow filter (see all those fine white lines?)...and added more saturation. Put a texture on it too...ahhh sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I will re-visit this work of art to see what else I can do within the contest criteria. Thank you.
