friiskiwi: Surely time lapse photography is not the same as long exposure.
( 5 years and 3722 days ago ) DML: I´m agree with friiskiwi, I hope the people read the contest goal. Anyway, good idea, I think we´ll see very good shots.
( 5 years and 3722 days ago ) animmax: I'm sorry - but 1, 2 sec shots are not what I would have considered as 'long exposure'.
( 5 years and 3721 days ago ) rrhall: first off, depending on the speed of a subject 1-2 seconds would be considered a long exposure. a 1/2 second is "long exposure" for portrait, 1/30th of a second is a long exposure for a golf swing...its all based on the speed and distance covered by a subject. Second I agree that time lapse is not the same...8 seconds of a football stadium showing no motion is not time lapse photography...the whole purpose is to get a sense of time passing, regardless of the length of the exposure
( 5 years and 3720 days ago ) animmax: Actually when I made this contest suggestion it specified 3 different exposure times to avoid this issue.
( 5 years and 3720 days ago ) adeincyprus: so, we need a ruling.........should the shot be such as to show time passing, ie. some sort of movement......imo, this is what this contest is about!!
( 5 years and 3720 days ago ) UncleJimmy: I guess this is the sort of thing that happens when the contest title suggests one thing and the description impies something different or is vague...The suggested exposure times should have been included and for certain if the exposure should show or imply movement...
( 5 years and 3718 days ago ) kyricom: A lot of these seem fairly average. Definitely not time lapse, I want to see a sense of movement with focus in the best ones (and there are some very nice ones too)
( 5 years and 3717 days ago ) adeincyprus: at the moment, we have a mish mash of time lapse and long expo shots........two different types of shot..........so just what is this contest about.......I will hold off entering anything until a ruling has been made, I don't want to waste a good shot.................
( 5 years and 3717 days ago ) karaflazz: The effect of photographing a subject that changes/moves imperceptibly slowly, is to create a smooth impression of motion.
( 5 years and 3717 days ago ) WYSIWYG: In this contest, your goal is to make a long exposure photo.....the subject material can be whatever you believe will make a great timed image. Time lapse as a title of the contest is wrongly chosen. I would say just follow the rules
( 5 years and 3717 days ago ) WYSIWYG: What I miss in a lot of entries is the following: "In your description - post your chosen exposure time."
( 5 years and 3717 days ago ) karaflazz: yes WYSIWYG...because long exposure is easier than time lapse...so..ok ....we will follow the rules....
( 5 years and 3717 days ago ) MaRkSqUiRrEl: Isnt time lapse a series of photos shot automatically with a timed shutter and then put back together in order with movie/annimation software to produce a fast motion video?? Like rotting fruit or a catapillar turning into a butterfly.
( 5 years and 3716 days ago ) friiskiwi: Mark, you are right about timelapse, and that's something we aren't allowed to do here.
( 5 years and 3715 days ago ) kyricom: How is, like, 1 second = "long?"
( 5 years and 3715 days ago ) MaRkSqUiRrEl: Kinda depends on your subject Kyricom, Maybe a minimum exposure time in the "goal" would have made it clearer.
