jawshoewhah: This theme seems like an easy goal. ( 5 years and 3580 days ago )
kyricom: People seem to be confusing what they "shouldn't" do with what they "can't" do. Theme seems to be about overcoming limitations imposed by others, not just ignoring advice. ( 5 years and 3578 days ago )
wiseman: kricom do you ever stop ( 5 years and 3578 days ago )
kyricom: ummmm... nope. guess not. ( 5 years and 3578 days ago )
wiseman: And it doesn't say that kricom shouldn't and can't are the same thing just depends on how u define cannot. I've heard ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
wiseman: Many times I cannot do something growing up getting in trouble but it was really I shouldn't because I would get in more trouble ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
wiseman: And being a trouble maker I got joy in life from doing what I was told I cannot do ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
kyricom: well, maybe you should have spent a little more time covering grammar than causing trouble. If you go by the thought that you can define things to mean virtually anything you want, then you're correct. Cat REALLY means dog. If you go by etymology than "can" means having the power or ability to do something. Adding "not" subtracts that through the negative, meaning you do NOT have the power or capability to do something. There are lots of things I probably "shouldn't" do, but that actually means I have the POWER or capability of doing it, but my judgement should prevent me. There absolutely is a difference between "can" and "should." ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
UncleJimmy: Can't/ shouldn't, it's all a bunch of symmantics in my opinion. In life most of us are raised to believe there is NOTHING we CAN" ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
UncleJimmy: Can't do, otherwise, the poor and under educated would never have risen to powerful positions (ie...Lincoln) so is there really anything you CAN'T do??? Well. I suppose men CAN'T get pregnant...oops...I'm incorrect...that has happened this past yeart in the good 'ol US of A!!! So shouldn't will be good enough in my judgement. ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
wiseman: thanks.....kyricom you talk a smart game but something tells me you were the kid to remind the teacher yall had homework due that day when she would forget ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
kyricom: itsmymoment... you are EXACTLY correct. This theme DOES seem to be about the things we are told we CAN'T do... but then overcome and do it anyway. There are some very good entries along those lines. And then there are the entries that virtually anyone can do but maybe shouldn't. There is a world of difference, whether you want to call it semantics or anything else. ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
Contest Moderator: my interpretation agrees with kyricom, that it is the things that we are told we cannot do and then prove to others or even ourselves, that we can, not the things we shoudn't do.........climbing a pyramid whilst disabled is a fine example of what we are told we Cannot do, then go and do it! ( 5 years and 3577 days ago )
jawshoewhah: whatever.... ( 5 years and 3576 days ago )
outbackjack: Cannot do is not the same as couldn't do and it says in the contest clearly cannot do and I am getting a little put off that in some contests the interpretation is wide and then is others it is overly pedantic. Especially when you can interpret this comp as that human nature often takes pleasure from doing what they are told they cannot do by law or morals etc. ( 5 years and 3575 days ago )
outbackjack: there is also nothing said about overcoming obstacles, or disabilities etc it says its about getting enjoyment from things we cannot do. ( 5 years and 3575 days ago )
outbackjack: WE are also told that if we have a non traditional/different or should we say not popular view of this theme we should explain what our photo means so that leaves it open to cannot, should not and may not. Read and interpret the whole descritpion not just one word, keep in context the whole idea ( 5 years and 3575 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Walter Bagehot's interpretation was that we take pleasure in achiveving things that we are told we cannot do because of some disability or inadequacy. Maybe due to lack of physical or mental ability. Nothing to do with breaking the law..so we will stay with that interpretation. ( 5 years and 3574 days ago )

This is a scan of a 1999 argentic picture (sorry, I didn't have a numeric camera that year).
This symbolizes a lot of things to me ... First of all, it was my best holiday but also, as at present, I have some mobility problems, climbing this pyramid was for me the last time I realized something as physically challenging. I proud of it because nobody thought I would be able to do it, but unfortunately, I know now that I will never be able to do it again. (5 years and 3581 days ago)
