Sepia toning is a specialized treatment to give the photograph a warmer tone and to enhance its archival qualities. Chemicals are used to convert the metallic silver in the print to a sulfide compound.
In this contest, your goal is to take your a photo with the sepia toning effect. Some cameras actually support this option and allow you to take photos directly with sepia toning applied. If your camera supports this, you can use this and mention in your description that no post-processing was involved. If your camera doesn't support it, digitally post-processing is exceptionally allowed in this contest. Don't forget to mention in your description that you used post-processing, and also mention the program used.
Good luck!
Required level: 10+ or higher. Status: finished. Check out the winners below!
jawshoewhah: I'm assuming a photo edited is PS to sepia is ok but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong ( 5 years and 3552 days ago )
Contest Moderator: correct! ( 5 years and 3552 days ago )
Nator: This contest is a 10+ are you kidding what possible skill is involved here... ( 5 years and 3552 days ago )
jawshoewhah: I was thinking the same thing Nator was. It's not really advanced photography ( 5 years and 3552 days ago )
jawshoewhah: However, not everything looks good in Sepia. ( 5 years and 3552 days ago )
friiskiwi: I guess we have to prove that we are really good photographers. ( 5 years and 3552 days ago )
UncleJimmy: jaws and friiskiwi nailed it on the head IMO, although sepia toning is a simple skill, the idea that just any photo will make a good sepia print is tha fallacy. It's the subject and the tonal qualities of the photograph that will be challenged. as jawshoewhah said, not just anything looks good in sepia. I'm certain we will see entries that are "flat" ( 5 years and 3552 days ago )
kyricom: Personally, I've always associated sepia with "old fashioned" photos from 100 years ago or more. I think the more "old fashioned" subjects will do well. ( 5 years and 3551 days ago )
k5683: some of the entries do not look sepia at all ( 5 years and 3547 days ago )
jawshoewhah: So base your vote on that, k5683 ( 5 years and 3544 days ago )

Lovely shot on the theme, I think that the use of sepia here, enhances the fog and adds that dreamy, out of this world effect. My suggestion for improvement would be to try a bit of a soft focus effect on the wood. It would add further to the effect.
there is evidence of selective editing in this shot..........a blurring tool of some description looks like it was used along the hedges on the far bank......
author says:
No blurring tool... you can see the original here: http://gs123.photobucket.com/groups/o316/O9P5LFFH37/?action=view¤t=IMG_48431.jpg
I looked at that....there is a blurring of some description along the tops of the trees on the bank. It is not in the original!
author says:
Ha, ha, ha, Ade..... it seems that you know better than me ...ha ha
No, I didn't use that tool... I like only HDR, and sometimes balance...
but if you are sure of it...ha ha ...it is ok!
Whatever it is - I can't see it. I do think this looks nicer than the colour version though
author says:
Well, Ade...I think you are talking about gradient of the sky above the trees in the background... If yes, it is like this because b/w in HDR....after that balance for sepia... Anyway , thanks again for watching so close....ha ha...thanks my friend! Always a pleasure!
( sorry for my english )
