A swing is a hanging seat, usually found in a playground for children, a circus for acrobats, or on a porch for relaxing. Most kids love to go to a playground or park so they can swing back and forth, endlessly.
In this contest you will have to take a shot of such a swing, either in motion or still. It doesn't matter where it is placed, it can even be in your back yard, but there are no people allowed in your photo. The main goal is to take go find a simple, normal swing and photograph it in an artistic way.
Good luck!

This is an artistic, different take of the theme wiseman.
I don't know why you are so close minded!
No offence...
close minded? where is the swing? is all i am asking...all i see is chains.........where is the seat...A swing is a hanging seat, usually found in a playground for children, a circus for acrobats, or on a porch for relaxing. if it was artistic chains awesome shot but im not seeing the swing
I love this shot, props to the author but I would have to agree with wiseman.
I thought the same thing last night when I first saw this but figured I would wait to see if I was the only one. The contest goal says "A swing is a hanging seat,
In this contest you will have to take a shot of such a swing (hanging seat), either in motion or still." This is a photo of chains not a hanging seat. How do we even know what these chains are connected to? If the contest goal was to take a picture of a dog could someone enter a photo of a leash and claim artistic expression?
Also I hardly think that it is at all appropriate to call someone close minded because their opinion differs from yours Karaflaz.
So you assume that author went to a Harbor & took a shoot of a cranes chain?
As you said all you see is a chain hanging & you can't tell if this is a swing or....
What????
What else can it be????
Come on.....
Locksmagic....
Art is BIG.
Artistic is a matter of how everyone see it.
It is not appropriate to call someones work "not artistic (the dog leash was a bad example imho off course),just because you see it that way!
Open your mind people & don't stick to the "exact" word of " swing" by it self.
Once again no offence to any one.
I just speak out my mind as everybody else!
First of all I never said that this was not artistic, I believe quite the opposite in fact! Second of all I'm not saying that the chains are in fact connected to something other than a swing I'm just saying that they could be, and with how picky the moderators are on this website this shouldn't be able to slide by. I have seen you and this author use this principal several times and win contests by being creative and I thought it was cool that open mindedness was allowed here, that was until I tried to do the same thing in two different contests last week and had both my entries deleted within hours for being off topic. Both of them were exactly this type of thing but I was told that while I had excellent and creative shots they couldn't be allowed because they didn't follow the contest goals. This is a direct quote from the e-mail the moderator team sent me
"Keep in mind that we have to remove everything that is considered even SLIGHTLY off-theme to avoid unnecessary argues after the contest ends."
For clarification, I think this is an awesome shot, I think it is a creative take on the theme, but according to the moderator team it shouldn't be allowed or do these rules only apply to lower level people such as myself?
Author I am in no way trying to attack your work so please do not take it that way, I'm simply saying that either this type of creativity should be allowed across the board or not at all.

I don't take your comments as an attack, locksmagic. Thank you for the compliment on the shot. I think you raise legitimate points, I just happen to disagree with them. My view is that this is a swing. The seat is just one part of a swing. The theme does not specify that you have to show the whole swing, just to "find a simple, normal swing and photograph it in an artistic way." It also says that a swing is a "hanging seat." If we show the seat, but not the "hanging" part, no one seems upset. I have chosen to emphasize the hanging part, and not the "seat." You couldn't have a swing without the chain. It is an inherent part. The mods can decide. Thanks for your comments.
My friend
If you only knew now many entry's of mine where removed from contests all this time, you would be surprised.
Entry's that most of people liked...
But i keep shooting & shooting trying to bring out the best of me...nothing discouraged me.
So believe me...
I know exactly how you feel.
Sorry if i insulted you in any way locksmagic.
Hey no worries karaflazz, sorry if I seemed standoffish, I'm just kinda frustrated by this site's inconsistency. I guess I don't understand how they determine if things are off topic or not.
I am extremely new to photography (just bought my first camera in january 2 days before my first photography class) but I have been watching this site for a long time because a friend of mine posts on here, and have followed your entries very closely because I know I can learn a lot from them. I tried to think outside the box like you do and like this entry does and thought I did a good job of doing so, I even asked one of my professors what he thought and was told that it was good, so you could imagine my shock and outrage last week when my entries were removed!
I'm still trying hard to learn and with each new contest my knowledge grows, that's why I do them. I guess this is just a lesson learned, continue to try and be creative and hope to hell I don't get shot down in the process
Good luck Author, despite my comments I hope you do well!
I would consider the seat to be "implied"... The rules first defines a swing as "A swing is a hanging seat", but in my understanding it does not say the shot must include the seat... it simply says: "The main goal is to take go find a simple, normal swing and photograph it in an artistic way."
So, it should be a photograph of such an object... and this is, most certainly, a swing...
My $.02 Worth...It's a great shot...no, it's not playing it "safe", but, I think it's on topic! If we didn't think outside the box, take chances and find different angles and such, every gosh-darn entry would be nearly identical! (Just wait for another candle or fire contest and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about!) I've had dozens of entries removed for "pushing" the limits and experimenting, but, hey, that's how it goes...nicely done author and good luck!
Wiseman... not really... the clean thing may or may not go into the dirt... but at the end of this chain we are all pretty certain there is a seat... get the point?
I think I might crop a little from the top (and maybe the left to keep proportion) so that the top of the rope on the left reaches the top of the photo.
