iquraishi: I've been through the link of 'macro' but I'm sorry I still didn't understand wht it means.. ( 5 years and 3515 days ago )
ziggyx2003: to put it really simply, its an extreme closeup ( 5 years and 3514 days ago )
jawshoewhah: I believe most digital cameras have a macro setting. You might want to consult your camera user manual to see how to set yours ( 5 years and 3514 days ago )
kyricom: folks... it says "MACRO" - not "close-up." A lot of the entries so far are just close-ups. ( 5 years and 3512 days ago )
UncleJimmy: Agree, so far there are only 3 or so macro's which by definition are 1:1 ratios...same size on the sensor as in real life...unless some of the mugs are only 20mm high, they aren't macros...I have a close-up entered and am red-flagging it for removal as it's not a macro, just to be fair. ( 5 years and 3512 days ago )
UncleJimmy: Now we're seeing some really nice macros...good work! ( 5 years and 3511 days ago )
friiskiwi: we should have asked everybody to state the size of what was photographed. ( 5 years and 3510 days ago )
Howdie stranger! If you want to participate in this contest, just:
Author, macro is a 1x or life-size 1:1 ratio based on the image size on the sensor not the finished example...given that reasoning the image is bigger than the actual object, a billboard sized print of an entire bus would be macro too???

Author, you are correct a macro is a 1x or 1:1 ratio, that means that it's the same size on the camera sensor as in real life...unless you are using a medium format (read Hassleblad) camera, a standard DSLR has an approx 18mmx24mm sensor...that figurine would HAVE to be less than 1 inch high??? Not trying to anger you...just making an observation...if it is that small, nicely done as I stated previously...the set-up is wonderful and the lighting is good also.
author says:
Not angered itsmymoment, not at all , sorry to have made that impression. As I am learning things and teaching myself this hobby i misunderstood the true definition of macro. Thank you for the compliment. The figurine's size is 2.5".
No problem author, then your actual ratio is in the area of 1:2 or 1:3, still in the macro range...for all purposes here I would guess, not all of the artists would have the equipment to make real macro's. Plus the real difficulty of this contest is finding something "interesting" enough on such a small scale on a ceramic figurine to shoot in macro!
