Actually life shows a lot of good and not so good things to people. One of the interpretations that life really stinks is shown in this snap through the depressive expression. (5 years and 3496 days ago)
Might bump up the contrast a little.
the hurt from within when we loose someone close to us (5 years and 3496 days ago)
Might bump up the contrast a little.
*nod* thank you kyricom. bumped up the contrast. messed with the midtones as well. i'm much happier with this. gives it more of a dramatic feel.
mmm, not sure about this one............imo, it would have been better in daylight, rather than it looking like it was taken in secret after dark.......also, the flash used is a little heavy for my liking.
before the contrast was messed with, you could tell it was taken in daylight. (well, honestly as the sun was setting) the flash use wasn't so noticeable at that point in time (ie, the shadow from the headstone and all)
I love the concept of the photo... but the problem, for me, is that the tombstone is too bright and the subject too dim and kind of washed off... Although it was taken in daylight, it gives me the feeling that the flash did not reach the woman...
Agrees with Ade. The flash really killed it, taking it at night. Grayscale seems to help but yes a day shot would have worked better.
it was done in daylight. >.>
the sun was setting, so it wasn't as harsh of light as what it would have been at say...3pm or so. it was nearing 8pm, so the sun was setting. the original shot shows more light, not enough contrast. I wanted the tombstone to be more stark, so i flashed it to get the effect. but when fixing the contrast, as i stated earlier, i got such a dark and harsh effect. i had so many different angles of this shot but this one seemed to work best at high res and all that.
i really need to figure out better lighting techniques for some of these tricky outdoor shots.
thank you for all your comments and suggestions.
there are some good tutorials about for lighting..........maybe even some in the tutorial archives here!
works well for the theme.......gl

A race lost that meant she wouldn't of been on the relay team. She talked about it for weeks. This is the face that shows the outcome. (5 years and 3499 days ago)
nice effort...........but there is a little blown highlight to the young lady's forehead that is a little distracting.
Pretty good shot!
Highlight is not that big of deal. It looks like she is rather disappointed as some point or maybe the way the game turned out. Either way, it fits! GL!
no, the highlight is not too big a deal, but it is a fault in the shot as a technical issue, which is what I also look at! I don't just look at a shot and decide if it is 'nice'.......if there is a technical issue, then I will make comment, or else the author, who may be new to the game, may never learn!!.........no offense to you author.....
Adein STFU this is comments to the author not a soap box for you. Why does it have to be a game. You focus on what you think are flaws and not on whats great about it. If someone likes the shot you dont need to reply again to prove YOUR POINT OF VIEW. Its not everyone's view its just yours.

SORRY!
I forgot about one compulsory person in the shot. Yet, it's sad.
Yes, sorry. It's off-theme. If you have one to replace it with you could go to "edit entries" and upload it.
Good kyricom! I replaced it. Thanks!
He doesn't look homeless or remotely in any pain whatsoever...
He looks a little consternated to me. Anyway... it's a million times closer to being on theme than the original entry. Good job

..and yes with that ring, it shows how married life brings that 'suffer-ring'! LOL i'm just joking! i know its only a picture!
this fella looks more bored than upset or depressed........imo.
I must agree with ade... he looks VERY bored indeed!
ditto
bored of being married
Loved what maclu2iaf has interpreted....Too good...Infact that is what i wanted to say....
I kind of agree. It just seems the worst pain he's focusing on is a tension headache or a nagging wife, reminding him to go mow the lawn.
it's not really what the contest is about though........there is no real pain and hurt here, just boredom and maybe fed up with his missus nagging him all the time..........imo, it is off topic.
No real pain .... are you married Ade?? lol
And FYI, I am not married. There are some things in life I managed to do right.
am I married??...............matey, I am married for the third time, which is why I am qualified to say there is no pain in this face..........
If he is married then why is the ring on the wrong hand......that is his right hand he is holding up..lol...Not the point anyway, nice photo...and sadness and pain doesn't equate to marriage for everyone....GL on your photo
