"Practice makes perfect," and many artisans take steps to ensure their final product will be what they had in mind. A "maquette" is a small sculpture made as a trial or sketch for a larger piece.
Your task in this contest is to take a shot of a maquette. Any style is acceptable; an airplane, a boat or even a house. Good luck!
jawshoewhah: I'm a little confused as far as what we can shoot. I'm going to assume toys are ok? Mod clarification please? ( 5 years and 3511 days ago )
ziggyx2003: Does this mean any small scale model? ( 5 years and 3511 days ago )
k5683: Darn it! I just got rid of a model house at my garage sale. ( 5 years and 3511 days ago )
Contest Moderator: As per the contest guidelines: A small sculpture made as a trial or sketch for a larger piece, so something that is also available as a large sixe object, ie: boat, plane, house, see http://www.sullivansculpture.co.nz/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=135&Itemid=103 for an ideal example. jawshoewhah: So no toys or what? ( 5 years and 3507 days ago )
kyricom: There seem to be many entries in this contest that aren't made as a trial for a larger piece ( 5 years and 3506 days ago )
ziggyx2003: True, but they are very hard to come by, I have made numerous phonecalls, to local council, architects, arts college and no luck. ( 5 years and 3505 days ago )
kyricom: That may be true, ziggy, but it doesn't make other things automatically on theme. There are often contests I can't enter because I can't find what they want around where I live. ( 5 years and 3505 days ago )
ziggyx2003: I agree with you and living in a smaller town am in the same boat as far as entries are concerned. Of course this does not mean I may not try it on, entries that are by some deemed off theme have won or placed in the past. ( 5 years and 3505 days ago )

Yup I was guessing you. Based on first impression, you know. This is very nice! The table saw with the wood shavings to show like it was just finished off is a nice touch. GL!
author says:
Thanks guys, my wife's grandfather makes these, they are music boxes. He was quite disturbed by my putting those wood shavings in the shot because "a table saw wouldn't make those" it was pretty funny how put out he seemed to be by my "ignorance"

This "little town" is a loose mock up of some building types we have in our town. We use these buildings at work for training. We "simulate" different scenarios (a fire shown here) and then simulate tactics, command, etc. as we would in a real life scenario. (5 years and 3504 days ago)
It might be! I personally love the yellow-trenchcoat girl on the right who is trying to sneak away unnoticed. Something tells me she may have been the cause of the fire. Nicely done, author! This definitely tells an interesting story.

I have to agree with Kyricom.......maquettes are usually a scale model of something that is going to be built or made. I don't really see a full size version of this being built. Just my opinion of course!
author says:
Wiki Definition: A maquette (French word for scale model, sometimes referred to by the Italian names plastico or modello) is a small scale model or rough draft of an unfinished architectural work or a sculpture.
It is used to visualize and test shapes and ideas without incurring the cost and effort of producing a full scale product.
This being the case - consider it the rough draught as per the definition.
I think if you are going to say that an entry is off theme, the least you can do is be consistent and not write "nice entry GL" on one and "off theme" on another and further - if you think an entry is off theme you should try and red flag it instead of discussing administrative issues on entries
