Almost everything that's involved in the Arts and Sciences, and contributed huge steps toward progress was inspired by nature. Fractals are an example of this. Fractals are widely used - in the Arts, Mathematics, Physics, helping understand Chaos Theory or measuring difficult areas. The major characteristic of fractals is that they present the same shape no matter how deeply you zoom in on it...
The goal of this contest is to locate fractal shapes in nature and present them. For further help on fractals you may visit this link.
Required level: 5+ or higher. Status: finished. Check out the winners below!
FallingHorse: Great theme suggestion - reckon this one may cause some argument of what's one theme lol ( 5 years and 3466 days ago )
jawshoewhah: So fractals are ill regular patters, usually found in nature and close up. IT sounds like it could me almost anything without a consistent pattern. It's probably safe to say that any consistent pattern is not going to be on theme but please feel free to confirm. This one has definitely grabbed my interest. ( 5 years and 3466 days ago )
anarchick: em... i didn't exactly caught your point, i believe, but fractals do have a pattern that is repeated with some alternations each time, i.e different scale or color. Take as reference the broccoli, the snowflakes, the crystals.. i cant tell everything though cause that would spoil the contest! Hope i helped a bit... ( 5 years and 3465 days ago )
athousandwords: Do I understand this correctly? All of the shapes that make the object are to be the same shape as the object itself. For instance, making a triangle out of smaller triangles. ( 5 years and 3463 days ago )
anarchick: yes you got it right! cant wait to see what will come out of this contest... feeling a bit sad though that i cant participate on my favorite photography theme! ( 5 years and 3462 days ago )
jawshoewhah: Ok, Now that I know what we are looking for, I have a better idea what would be on theme. If that was put into the description to begin with (the triangles made of triangles) then there would have been less confusion. ( 5 years and 3462 days ago )
jawshoewhah: And they let us re-enter again when an entry has been removed. There was a time there they wouldn't let us enter after an entry was removed due to being off theme. ( 5 years and 3462 days ago )
Contest Moderator: I think that is a glitch in the program.......Maybe Mr M is not aware of it! ( 5 years and 3461 days ago )
jawshoewhah: Oh, believe me, there's more than one glitch he's not aware of. Like the fact people can enter more than 3 entries all of a sudden. ( 5 years and 3460 days ago )
adeincyprus: yes, I noticed that too......and you are right, there are quite a few glitches since the last website change! ( 5 years and 3460 days ago )
jawshoewhah: I think MrM probably has a lot to deal with as it is but yeah, those glitches I hope he can take care of soon. ( 5 years and 3457 days ago )

I was just curious if this was some kind of cactus. Very nice shot and good choice for grayscale but I wouldn't expect less from an artist of your stature. Ya don't need it but GL!
Mod approved and proven no photoshop (whoever redflagged) Yes, the edges look like they may have been PS'd but it is the way it was cut, lighting, etc. (5 years and 3460 days ago)
the patterns in peacock feathers have been used many times to create fractal images, but I do not know if they are fractals in their own right!

I did research on this one before submitting this entry and this is what I found here ( http://www.ehow.com/facts_5845682_living-fractal_.html ) "Still other fractals associated with living things are peacock feathers, Queen Anne's Lace blooms, the veins of some leaves, and many others."
beautiful texture

Congrats for your first place, Karaflazz!
