Farmland can be a very beautiful subject. It's inspired poetry by William Wordsworth and Beethoven's 6th symphony. Bucolic hills with grazing cattle or a barnyard full of chickens can make many wish to turn their backs on the hustle and bustle of city life.
Take a creative shot of a farm or a field, but make sure it's a rural area. Animals and people are allowed as long as they fit into the farm theme.
FallingHorse: Great suggestion Locksmagic ( 5 years and 3496 days ago )
locksmagic: Sooo.... do the mods usually add long descriptive paragraphs with words that most of us have never heard to peoples suggestions? ( 5 years and 3496 days ago )
k5683: yes, they add their own descriptions to make it more interesting for one. Also there may not be enough description so they add to it. I think it is AWESOME when people use words that I've never heard of- it makes me want to look in my dictionary to see what it means More people should do this. ( 5 years and 3496 days ago )
k5683: per merriam-webster online~ bucolic: "1 : of or relating to shepherds or herdsmen 2 : a : relating to or typical of rural life b : idyllic" ( 5 years and 3496 days ago )
k5683: Idyllic: "1 : pleasing or picturesque in natural simplicity" per merriam-webster online ( 5 years and 3496 days ago )
kyricom: Hoorah for k5683!!! Someone who actually expands their vocabulary! But... are you sure locksmagic wasn't referring to "barnyard?" ( 5 years and 3493 days ago )
kyricom: Hey all you city folks... newsflash... just because an area doesn't have buildings does NOT make it farmland. ( 5 years and 3493 days ago )
locksmagic: Kyricom, one more comment like that and I'll be forced to start talking about "yo momma" ( 5 years and 3491 days ago )
locksmagic: So heres a question, how do we vote on something that technically isn't on topic but looks like the mods are going to allow to stay? After looking through these I see at least 10 entries that aren't farms. ( 5 years and 3491 days ago )
kyricom: Well, locksmagic... I imagine we hold off voting at all and red flag them. Then, if they're still up at the end, figure out how you want to vote on them. Personally, if I voted on them at all. if I thought they were off theme - I'd vote very low. Oh yeah, before I forget... "Yo momma so ugly even Rice krispies won't talk to her!" Thanks everyone! I actually took this in 60mph winds hah. You can see the tree in the mid left area blowing around. I sky was just so amazing before the storm started though. Then I had to run to the car full speed because they say the 7D is waterproof but I KNOW my lenses are not. hahah thank you for all of your nice compliments!
thanks all for the kind comments. Jtpobrien, I shoot in raw format and generally I don't have to do extra sharpening when I take it in to lightroom or camera raw. This one I didn't have to do any sharpening luckily, just adjusted the black levels to deepen tones and added clarity. Thankyou for your inquiry though, hope that was what you wanted to know.
jtpobrian: look at the rules and guidelines
"What tools/alterations MAY I use?
As a general rule, you are allowed to all adjustments which act on the whole picture and on exactly one picture (a.k.a. non selective editing).
This includes:
level,
curves,
hue,
saturation,
color adjustments/shifting,
brightness,
contrast,
Gaussian blur,
noise reduction,
sharpness,
Crop and rotate,
Lens correction,
Camera raw editing,
Healing brush to remove dust and scratches from a scan or speckles from dust on your camera's sensor,
Duplicated layers,
Layer blending modes"
Mine almost always tend to do that on here, I have just gotten used to pushing my contrast past the point where I normally woud so that it turns out how I want it on here.

Yea I guess, my green was alot greener and the sky was a warm color....
We seen this one not long ago If you have uploaded in Adobe RGB instead of sRGB you will lose some of the vibrancy.... especially in the greens. Adobe RGB has a larger gamut of colour which can be lost once uploaded - most web applications can't replicate the colour range in Adobe RGB
I tried uploading one myself in the sRGB color space (I don't print my photos too often so I just use this as the default) and I still had a slight shift in vibrancy (not as bad, though). Thanks for the tip!
Oh, and great capture, author. I'm loving this contest so far!

Thank you, and I did make sure it was sRGB this time and still lost a bit. Oh well though, its ok.
Nice drama, yes. Good luck!
The lighting in this is just gorgeous
Fantastic capture. GL!
