Your task is to take a shot of something we usually find in a large quantities closely packed together. For example, you could take a shot of a single grain of rice as rice is always seen in large quantities, or a single grain of sand. No other objects are allowed in your photo. Good luck!
Kare: CAn someone define large quanties for me, and also define closely packed, cos to me, not a lot of these here meet the goal ( 5 years and 3410 days ago )
ziggyx2003: yes an explanation would be appreciated ( 5 years and 3410 days ago )
Kare: guess no explantion is forthcoming.... ( 5 years and 3406 days ago )

Fabulous! Since I don't know photography, did you photoshop it also? How did you treat it? Thanks for sharing.

No my friend. No PS at all.
The set up goes like this...
A mirror,1 flashlight & a external flash.
1 piece of a puzzle.
Nikon D90 with 50mm f/1.8 AF Nikkor lens.
Spot metering
F:11
3 sec exposure
iso 125
Using spot metering the camera gets light ONLY from the spot that you want...in this case the puzzle piece so the b/g gets all black!
Increase contrast 2 in PS & thats all.
The "hard" part was NOT .
the set up or the IDEA but to get the lighting exactly as i wanted it.
You see the puzzle's surface is VERY very small to manage it.
To small to give the 3D feeling as accurate as possible!
I try 25-30 times until i get it right (for my taste at least).
The light on the right is the flashlight & the one on the left is the external flash.
The problem was the flash cause it had to light the piece in a way that it wouldn't be BOH (blow out highlights) but in the same time keeps it's 3 dimensional view.

this reminds me of one of those scenes where the bad guy is sitting on a chair in a room with just a light above him and is being questioned. Nice Job.
Ok I keep coming back to look at this, I've gotta say I'm jealous Author. This is amazing IMO, the creativity and execution is incredible. I love the DOF on this, and if it was in fact taken on a piece of glass as kyricom suggests then the lighting is amazing, great observation of the family of angles!

Thanks everyone.... yes... it was on a piece of glass... if you look close at the upper right "corner" you can see the reflection. Not allowed to PS it out. That was the hardest... no reflection. Took many many shots and had to look to the computer screen to make sure none were there. Lighting was same way.. shoot, look, hate it... shoot again LOL. @Locks.... will have to google "family of angles" LOL!!!!

After reviewing the guidelines i realized my initial entry was off topic (it included other objects in the background). I have reshot and resubmitted. (5 years and 3411 days ago)
