Your goal in this contest is to take a minimalist shot. A minimalist shot is a photo where there are a minimal number of objects creating a scene. For example, a chair next to a table holding a single table lamp, or a framed photo on a plain wall with a person looking at it. There should be a minimal number of details in your shot and you should always have a plain background. Good luck!
karaflazz: Nice!!!!!!!!!!! ( 5 years and 3453 days ago )
Archetypus: I love it. It sounds so simple but can be a real challenge too. ( 5 years and 3452 days ago )
Mekun: lamantine, great suggestion. ( 5 years and 3452 days ago )
jawshoewhah: Great idea! I guess we'll just argue about whether or not an image is plain enough ( 5 years and 3452 days ago )
Mekun: Um plain enough is not the same a single, I single items not minimalism ( 5 years and 3451 days ago )
Lamantine: Single items don't create any scene, so single items are off theme ( 5 years and 3451 days ago )
Contest Moderator: For examples of minimalist photography go here : http://www.smashandpeas.com/20-examples-of-minimalist-photography/ ( A single subject is not off topic in and of itself) Minimalism is about creating a look, feel and mood with a clear simple subject, light and color (or lack of it) and can be very subjective ( 5 years and 3451 days ago )
kyricom: I don't think I'll enter this one. There are only a handful of entries that are actually minimalism. If the same people entering are the people voting, my bet is something off theme is going to win. (hint: just taking a picture of a single object is NOT minimalism, AND if it's a shot outdoors there's an excellent chance it's not minimalism) ( 5 years and 3449 days ago )
Contest Moderator: People Please! Do some research and see some examples of minimalism BEFORE submitting entries...filling the frame with a single busy subject or busy and textured shots is not minimalism....filling the frame with multiple subjects is not minimalism and will be considered off topic. It is about using "space" and simplicity in the photograph...for even more information here is another link...http://digital-photography-school.com/minimalism-in-photography ( 5 years and 3447 days ago )
lvstealth: the contest guidelines are written well, even if you left out the "minimalism" style of art, the contest states "minimal number of objects creating a scene" and "should always have a plain background" that seems to be very explicit. several imagets are just closeups. that isnt a scene. and many have "busy" backgrounds, that isnt "plain". i really hope someone goes through and eliminates the off theme entries. it is very off putting for the off theme stuff to place high cause no one filtered it for on theme images. jawshoewhah: Kyricom, do you have to piss on every contest that comes out? ( 5 years and 3446 days ago )
locksmagic: Josh you can't blame kyricom for being a crotchety old man, after all he is a pretentious academic (thats for the picture of my mom Mark) ( 5 years and 3446 days ago )
kyricom: I will have you KNOW... I am NOT crotchety! I am curmudgeonly. ( 5 years and 3445 days ago )
