this is great, but with so much light in the fg, how did you get so much black in the bg? looks like you use some sort of ring flash.

It was taken after dark using a macro-ringlight flash so the BG is black as the pine branch is hanging out into open space and the macro flash only projects a meter or so...

Nice... might have left a bit more background on the top or bottom so it wasn't so centered

No, not Canadian....LOL...it was shot sitting on one of my soft-box lights to get the see throu effect...so the bright white BG is the BG...
