Photograph a scene or object with candlelight only. Be creative with the candlelight...it can be fun and romantic or dark and mysterious. Objects are to be lit only with candlelight...flash, daylight and other lighting sources will be considered off topic.
friiskiwi: This is confusing, do we have an object (other than the candle) in the photo or not? ( 5 years and 3210 days ago )
xogx2002: I'm taking this as the candle can be the only source of light. ( 5 years and 3210 days ago )
Momof4boyoboys: Not sure...it is not exactly as I wrote it...I did say "photo a scene or object using just candlelight"....but then it says up there that no other objects can be present?....can you clarify mods please? Thanks ( 5 years and 3210 days ago )
friiskiwi: MODS, could we please have a clarification, Is this contest for a candle photo or something lit by a candle??? ( 5 years and 3209 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Upon thinking this over (I'm just as confused be the contradictory description as everyone else...LOL) I do believe that the ORIGINAL intention and spirit of the contest was to photograph an object using only candlelight...Therefore, another object would have to be present, otherwise, this would be just a "Candles" contest. We will allow other items into the photograph as long as they are lit ONLY by candlelight... ( 5 years and 3209 days ago )
karaflazz: humans are allowed? ( 5 years and 3209 days ago )
Contest Moderator: The guidelines say Objects or Scene...we will keep this contest to objects, not people... ( 5 years and 3209 days ago )
friiskiwi: There are a lot of lovely shots of candles, without a lit object. Are they on theme? ( 5 years and 3208 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Candle holders are seen as a part of the candle and do not count as the extra object which is needed in the shot. ( 5 years and 3203 days ago )
ibmaxed: Any hint of being creative and the entry is removed...mmmm ( 5 years and 3203 days ago )

Since I am new at this and recently got a new camera, please tell me how you know that. Is it on the camera when you take the picture or is it a setting you adjust to those numbers?

It depends of how you want you photo to be.In this case i used f:22 for two reasons.
First,to have the maximun dof posible (all the subjects on my composition to be in focus). That means that even if the book & glasses are in the foreground & books/candles are in the background, everything is in focus with no dof.Using f:22 all so creates the "star" ffect on the candle light. Most cameras have the A mode (aperture mode)that adjusts the sutter speed depending the f number you use.I mostly use M (manual mode) to adjust eveything on my own.
Congrats on your fourth place, looking forward to more great entries!

Beautiful photograph, but what is the red and blue flares?
Lens flare I guess from the candles.
Great! Great! Absolutely great! I love it!!!
Great shot, though would like to see it without the star bursts
Wonderful! I personally like the star bursts.
Would it be too much to ask what settings you used to shoot this?
Not at all....
F:22
iso 50
93.5 sec exposure!
