Author, you can edit this entry in order to submit the hi res. In your toolbar click on "My Stuff", then "My Contest Entries." From here you can edit your entry and re-upload your photo as a hi res. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure I understand your question. There was no particular reason other then I though the dof looked cool.

You normally use dof to bring focus to something you want the viewer to see (or even what you DON'T want the viewer to see). There are, however, exceptions to the rule that can yield outstanding results. This is one of them. Sometimes you just have to throw judgment and theory out the window and just "shoot what looks cool." So great work, author!
