This may sound like a stupid question, but what am I looking at?

I think it is one of those mirror looking cubes and you are seeing the reflection ?????

It's a souvernir we bought in Mexico. About 6 cm high and 4 wide. It's one of those Mayan pyramids in tsizeniza. (or as the yanks say chicken pizza haha)

Oh!! yeah I got something similar from a Ramses Mummy exhibit, years ago. Looks like you hung onto yours better than I did mine

My wife and I were at Cancun and went to Chichin Itza. I was the guy at the top of the pyramid trying not to pass out from the climb. Did you see me?

LOL Kyricom, no did not see you I have this things for heights. Only way to get me to climb those pyramids would be at gunpoint

Is this scanned? I mean, did you use a camera to photograph it?

yes jaws, i placed a white table cloth down on the table, and put an old window glass on top to flatten the paper out then took a picture of it. thanks for asking, otherwise no one would have known!

i dont know if it is allowed but i used this to help me before i took the picture..let me know if i wasnt allowed to look upon this for guidance.. i mean it was just teaching me a technique..

I can understand the the note is important to you, and it's an excellent shot for showing what is written on it. Good photograph to document it, but it isn't artistic, Jaws was wondering if it had been scanned/photocopied. I think you would have got a much more artistic shot, photographing it in the box, perhaps with some sunlight from a window. Do have a go at re-shooting.

Yeah, I don't think a photocopy is allowed, I mean it's a photography contest. IF you didn't use your camera to shoot it, then it doesn't really qualify, don't you think? Try reshooting it with your camera and create more DOF, like friiskiwi suggested.

I think you should have used a different background

agrees with Josh. I can hardly distinguish the the background from some of the Jug. I would suggest a black background.

Or even a lighter neutral color like blue or yellow. Black might be a little strong.

You may both be right, and photos that are in your face especially with black backgrounds do win here with great frequency. However, for this photo I wanted something very light and soft, which I feel I have achieved.

I don't know... I kind of like the white on white. But... I DEFINITELY wouldn't let grandchildren play with it on ANY background!

Keep hanging on to it for a while and never open the package. That might actually be worth some good money at one of those toy conventions.
