Free lensing is a very challenging form of photography that can produce wonderful results when done right. Get creative and photograph any subject that you feel would benefit from the selective blur that this technique produces. If you don't know how to do it check out this tutorial
Required level: 5+ or higher. Status: finished. Check out the winners below!
Ken: Sound fun to try.. But I don't wanna mess up my sensor :x ( 5 years and 3151 days ago )
FallingHorse: Ruuuuunnn - the dust bunnies are after us :-O ( 5 years and 3151 days ago )
TankRed: may I ask if using hand holding a lens on an attached lens is allowed (reverse lens macro technique) ( 5 years and 3150 days ago )
UncleJimmy: I would think not TankRed, the idea is to have the lens completely removed from the camera. that would be an entirely different technique. ( 5 years and 3149 days ago )
Contest Moderator: The entire idea of free lensing is to have your lens detached, any photos taken with the lens attached to the camera will be removed. ( 5 years and 3149 days ago )
happyme27: competition says I can upload 500 entries--thanks for the offer...but uh, that doesn´t seem quite right ( 5 years and 3149 days ago )
k5683: I can't seem to get this! wow it is harder than it looks. Somehow when I tilt the lens, I get a black circle showing Guess I'll have to research more. ( 5 years and 3146 days ago )
locksmagic: Kellie, it depends on what lens your trying to use but your probably tilting it too far. ( 5 years and 3145 days ago )
k5683: thanks. I tried both my 18-55 mm and my 200mm. When I put it in front of the camera, it didn't seem to make any difference at all, even when I tilted it ever so slightly. Oh well, I don't see myself doing this anyway so I really don't need the practice I guess. ( 5 years and 3144 days ago )
Howdie stranger! If you want to participate in this contest, just:
great image -- not sure i would get something this nice with the lenas attached -- like the overall effect not sure it is light leaking or just the softness of the focus
Howdie stranger! If you want to rate this picture or participate in this contest, just:
4 shot HDR of a fire alarm pull-box. All shots in the free lens technique...
I assembled the shots in Photomatix 4 Pro/64 then adjusted curves, levels and perspective in PS CS5. (5 years and 3146 days ago)
OMG was this harder than I thought it would be! 24-105 lens, canon 5d markll, iso 800, f/???, 3 exposures per bracket, 3 frames, HDR processing in PS CS5, then stitched in PS CS5. (5 years and 3144 days ago)
