drskn08: do you mean either night or evening or it must be night only ? ( 5 years and 3077 days ago )
jfish: Dang it...we just had a huge storm and the sky literally turned bright orange at 10:00 pm. It was awesome and would have made for a great picture...but my baby was sleeping on me so I couldn't get up. Arg... ( 5 years and 3077 days ago )
locksmagic: It is ultimately up to the moderator of this contest but my intention was for it to be night skies NOT evening skies... i.e. the time between sunset and sunrise. ( 5 years and 3077 days ago )
Contest Moderator: This contest is about night shots: evening, sunsets and sunrises will be considered to be off theme. ( 5 years and 3077 days ago )
k5683: ahhhhhh, I see. So this has to be like at 11, midnight, 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the morning to be considered on theme. ( 5 years and 3076 days ago )
drskn08: i think this is quite good theme
any one who is a little bit aware of strange n natural photography may catch good photographs. ( 5 years and 3076 days ago )
k5683: WHAT? *with a very confused look* ( 5 years and 3076 days ago )
kcherry497: Has anyone else noticed there seem to be several entries that are off topic is it just me. ( 5 years and 3074 days ago )
kcherry497: Sorry I guess I should have said off theme, rather than topic. ( 5 years and 3074 days ago )
drskn08: I am agreed with kcherry.. but i hope that moderator will do what they should do.. If some one post unknowingly then it might be ok but just to irritate Moderator is cheap... why can't people keep something fair & clean...Its really SAD ! Merely getting most vote doesn't prove their photographs best. ( 5 years and 3073 days ago )
jfish: Yep, my picture was taken off because I shot at 11:30 and the sky was brighter thanks to a full moon and a storm. I guess my area is too lit up if 11:30 is not considered night. And I notice there are a few day time shots that are still up...awesome. ( 5 years and 3072 days ago )
Contest Moderator: @jfish: please do not discuss removed entries here, contact a photomod or send us a mail. We make mistakes too and can be convinced of it.
@others: if you feel an entry is in this contest which is off theme in your opion: red flag it and explain why it is off theme in your view. ( 5 years and 3072 days ago )
Beautiful picture. I'm just curious, with such a long exposure, how did you manage to keep all the boats perfectly sharp? I'd imaging they would be bobbing around a bit. Can you share your technique, Id love to try this.

This was actually 200 or so 25 sec exposures stacked together in a program called StarStaX.
Nicely done author...I still need to try this technique, but my timing is terrible, when I have the time, the conditions suck for such a shot, when the conditions are good, I don't have the time to get to an interesting location. Very interesting entry indeed.

Nice capture author...agree w/ kyricom here, look at cropping out the roof and perhaps a touch more contrast to make the clouds really pop...otherwise, a great entry...
Great shot, how long was the exposure for this shot, I guess they are multiple lightning strikes. The purple colour is fantastic.

It was a 2 sec exposure, at f/8. I was using a cable remote to shoot continuously. Pretty funny experience since it was raining and I essentially wrapped my camera with plastic wrap. Took about 800 photos that night and only 3 came out with lighting
I don't know, I like the silhouette made by the wire in the center but I think there's too many lines at the bottom. Oh well I was under a balcony to keep my camera as sheltered as possible and I was quite limited to the space I had on the balcony.

Very cool picture, almost a timelapse of sorts. Congrats on a great image.
