What do you think about when your hear the word "white" ? Your goal is to take a "white picture". Your whole composition must tell us that your pictures means "White"! The color white must take up at least 75% of your picture.
All other colors are allowed too, as long as white is dominant. Don't just turn any picture to B&W - be creative and use multiple colors, while keeping the overall look white.
Status: finished. Check out the winners below!
Contest Moderator: To clarify, all photographs that have been converted to black and white will be considered off topic. The goal of this contest is not to take the best B/W photo, but to take the best picture that utilizes white as the dominant color. ( 5 years and 3138 days ago )
Mikaelbg: Would white on white be on theme? ( 5 years and 3138 days ago )
UncleJimmy: Good question Mikaelbg, I would think that white/white would be contrary to the spirit of the contest. The idea here is to use some (very little) color to add some punch and creativity to the shot. I'm not the mod of this contest, but I'm suggesting you stay away from a "total white-out" just to be safe. ( 5 years and 3138 days ago )
Mikaelbg: I had that feeling too, thank you itsmymoment! ( 5 years and 3138 days ago )
kyricom: A lot of these are very nice, but not 75% white ( 5 years and 3136 days ago )
drskn08: I think without 'white on white' its quite difficult/tricky to get a photograph with atleast 75% white(unless wot want to shot a scene of Sony fall only ) and there would always be chance of raising red flag. Even though one may get a pic following rule but then the subject might loose its identity. ( 5 years and 3133 days ago )
friiskiwi: a lot of photos tend to be something small on lots of white background which to me doesn't seem right. It will be interesting to see the final results, at least this time black and white photos aren't allowed, which I think is great. ( 5 years and 3132 days ago )
jfish: Not sure why that wouldn't seem right when that's within the guidelines of the contest. I think there are a ton of great pictures of small objects with white backgrounds, very creative. To each their own. ( 5 years and 3132 days ago )
McCormick: I would have to agree with kyricom. There are some great shots here, some ranging from items shot against a white backdrop, and others that have various shades of white mingled with colors, with quite a few seeming to have less than 75% white in the image. If the idea of this theme was to look at a photo, and have your first thought be, "hey, white!", then I'm confused on some of the entries. ( 5 years and 3131 days ago )
jfish: Good point McCormick! It will be interesting to see who comes out on top. ( 5 years and 3131 days ago )
Howdie stranger! If you want to participate in this contest, just:
Author I guess I must be uninformed but how are you able to determine what percentage of white there is in this image?
author says:
Check out your Histogram palette. With nothing selected, you should see the total number of pixels (shown underneath Mean, Std Dev, Median). Now, select the red color (using the Magic Wand Tool or whatever works for you) and you will see the number of pixels for that selection.
Divide that number by the total number to get your percentage.
This is great, The only thing I'd say, is that the Strawberry on the left draws my attention over the main strawberries. I wouldn't have worried too much about the 'at least 75% of your picture' . I believe simplicity would have settled nicely here. Anyhow, Great job author
