renegade: what is this, an audition for 'jackass'.............. putting ourselves or our equipment into harms way........ is that really a smart thing to do. ( 5 years and 3068 days ago )
TankRed: My intentions for this topic was shots that show how dedicated photographers can be for getting the perfect shot. A good example is having a stunt bike go up a ramp and jump off while you are below the ramp taking a under the shot. You are not only risking your camera but yourself should the stuntman fail. How about climbing a tree to get a birds eye view shot? Or having a soccer player kick a ball directly at you and you have take the shot and then dodge it (I have no such photo btw). Of course that's my interpretation. ( 5 years and 3068 days ago )
UncleJimmy: There are indeed many times a photographer goes to extraordinary lengths to get a shot, think of not only nature/wildlife extreme shooting, but what about combat photographers renegade? It's those shots that separate the chaff from the wheat so to speak...I don't think TankRed is suggesting you jump off a bridge for this contest...but, if you were such a photographer...share your shots that took that bit of risk to capture... drskn08: hahaha yeah.. some times we take a shot happily and later realize that it was really a gutsy shot baby...!!! ( 5 years and 3067 days ago )
renegade: "but what about combat photographers", how many of us are combat photogs! I still think it a little irresponsible. Under a ramp during a jump, really!! ( 5 years and 3066 days ago )
MnMCarta: well dangit! Everyone told me I didn't have to follow her when she jumped off a bridge but now I'm thinking I need to so I can enter this contest! LOL ( 5 years and 3066 days ago )
captgeo: I am kinda like a combat photographer... not war but in some interesting situations. I would look at this contest as more of an "extreme photography" contest. In other words, having to take a shot with some due regard to personal care, equipment care, etc. ( 5 years and 3066 days ago )
UncleJimmy: yes...under a ramp during a shot...on a cliff...in the surf...hanging from a railing. If you look in all the photo mag or check the work of some of the best photogs, I am pretty much betting not one of them took the "money-shot" from an average standing 'snap-shooters' position. But hey...that's just me...I would rather get a bit dirty and extreme and have a shot very few people would dare to get. ( 5 years and 3066 days ago )
locksmagic: How is under a ramp during a jump irresponsible? Thats what being an action photographer is all about, just watch the x games and look for the photographers they are always in precarious spots. If your content taking pictures of flowers in your backyard, or of drooling baby's fine but that doesn't make those of us who are willing to take a few risks jackasses. ( 5 years and 3066 days ago )
kyricom: It's fine to take pictures of flowers... as long as there are NO .....WATER DROPLETS!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( 5 years and 3066 days ago )
FallingHorse: wrap me in cotton wool already :P

Contest Moderator: Please realize that this contest isn't about photographing a a "risky, gutsy" photo of someone else. Unless that person is a photographer. This contest is to put yourself (the photographer) in a safe but risky situation and take a shot. Taking a shot of a dangerous animal with a telephoto is not exactly on theme. (unless you are actually in the pen with them). Any entry without a description will be removed. ( 5 years and 3064 days ago )
drskn08: Now here moderator explained well.... this is exactly what this contest demands..thank you moderator for your guidance.. ( 5 years and 3062 days ago )

There are 5 bushes in my yard that for a few weeks have had about 4 types of stining bugs in them. I was charged a couple of times and ran like a little kid but kept trying to get the perfect shot of one of them. This one was too busy eating to notice so I snapped a couple shots and ran. LOL I was literally a few inches away from it. (5 years and 3063 days ago)

Found this snake at a park nearby beside a stream. Used a +4 close up len on a 70-210mm I think (not sure) so ad to get really close (I was like 10 cm away from it). The risk would be the snake potentially getting angry and attacking me or my camera (it was pretty big). (5 years and 3068 days ago)

We were near Niagra Falls around midnight last February. We found ourselves alone on the path, so I took the opportunity to climb over the rail (to get it out of the shot) onto the ice on the other side. Those are the buildings on the Canadian side. Pretty stupid... don't try this at home. (5 years and 3070 days ago)

Found this fellow camping out in my garage last summer...being that I live in the woods, we get them quite often. Shot using a Tamron 28-300mm AIO, I was on my belly about 1.5 meters away! If he'd decided to slither my direction I probably couldn't have gotten up fast enough... (5 years and 3066 days ago)

Taken from the 'wrong' side of the railing at the top of a falls. You can see the pathway off to the right...I climbed over the railing, perched myself on a rocky outcrop precariously close to the edge of the falls to grab this shot. After the shot was taken, a trail 'marshal' caught me out there...and I was promptly asked to leave for my own safety....LOL (5 years and 3068 days ago)
