Waterfall Bw - Photography Contest [19 entries]

Forest flow Picture

Winning entry, with a score of:

By Pat
Contest goal:

Take a shot of a natural waterfall. The trick is to ONLY keep the water in color, all the rest in the photo must be in grayscale (to put it simply, use selective coloring). Good luck!

Required level: 5+ or higher.

TankRed: I sense niagra falls appearing in this contest (not that they are gonna be from me) ( 5 years and 3005 days ago )
MnMCarta: none of mine have blue water... dang! ( 5 years and 3005 days ago )
nita1983: So you use photoshop to keep the water blue? ( 5 years and 3004 days ago )
k5683: does it really have to be blue? Not one of the waterfalls in Michigan have blue water that I know of.....and I just recently visited tons of them on a waterfall U.P. tour. ( 5 years and 3004 days ago )
Contest Moderator: The water does not have to be blue; it can be any natural color. Contest description updated. ( 5 years and 3004 days ago )
k5683: after just trying to desaturate all colors but blue, I found out that Michigan waterfalls actually do have blue in them (obviously because they are water-lol) but when you look at them, they all look like a rusty color. I found that it is hard to desaturate all but the rusty color of the water because that color is in most of the photo also. By any means, even though they don't look blue to our eyes, they do actually hold blue. ( 5 years and 3003 days ago )
k5683: do we have to use selective coloring via desaturating all levels except a particular color? Or are we allowed to duplicate the layer, turn it into b&w and then erase only where we want the color to show? ( 5 years and 3003 days ago )
friiskiwi: We have had some strange contests, I haven't found any photos in this contest where this treatment does anything to improve the photo.
Had the author of the suggestion seen a photo that inspired him? ( 5 years and 3002 days ago )
Contest Moderator: For this contest you may use any means you wish in order to create the selective color effect (so long as the only item colored is the water). ( 5 years and 3001 days ago )
k5683: ahhhh, thank you I thought we still had to go by regular photography rules. So, I will use this method and it is ok? http://www.pxleyes.com/video-tutorial/photoshop/3219/Using-Selective-Color.html ( 5 years and 3001 days ago )
locksmagic: I was thinking the same thing friiskiwi, not that any of these photos are bad mind you I just think they would look a lot better in either straight color or B&W. But that being said I think we all have thrown out a contest idea or 2 that we thought sounded good at the time but wound up being a flop ( 5 years and 3001 days ago )
k5683: I think the only one so far that actually looks great enough to print with the selective color is the one that has the favorites on it (the one with the brown color at the bottom) I think that one is beautiful...I wonder how beautiful it is in color? ( 5 years and 3001 days ago )
k5683: I wish I had a filter at the time I did all of my waterfall pictures We could never stay late enough for it to be dark enough without a filter. ( 5 years and 3001 days ago )
k5683: Pat, you are kind of giving away your anonymity. I like the color, but oddly I like the one in the contest WAY better for some reason. ( 5 years and 3000 days ago )
k5683: you can try getting ahold of a mod maybe. some things you can delete yourself, some things you can't.
you would probably have to send a private message to a photo mod to get this deleted quicker...like locksmagic, magicsteve, or itsmymoment. you can go to "More" "pxleyes team" and then scroll down to the user, click on the blue name and then it'll send you to their profile and under their picture is where you'll see "send PM" ( 5 years and 2999 days ago )
