Sunrise Sunset - Photography Contest [9 entries]

Sunset/midday/sunrise Picture

Winning entry, with a score of:
70.8%
Contest goal:

I was just at another site *blushes* and saw a contest for sunrise photos. While looking through them, many of them actually looked like sunsets. I wondered to myself, "how can you tell the difference between sunrises and sunsets unless you know the exact location?"

That led me to a contest idea: Take a picture of a sunrise and also a sunset in the same day. Obviously they will be from different spots, but if at all possible, try to stay in the same location...just face the opposite way. Put them next to each other one one document. If you really want to make it cool, do a panorama of the sunrise, midday and the sunset ;) You would have to keep your tripod set up all day for this though.

JoeCacia: Mods! Please do clarify the contest guidelines please! In my knowledge, the Sun rises next to me house and sets next to my parents @ the sea, some people are writing under pictures that they should have 2 pictures set from the same place about the Sunset and Sunrise? Let us know please! Thank you in advance! ( 5 years and 2983 days ago )
MossyB: I think it's nicer visually with just ONE photo, which could be either a sunrise or a sunset. To join two photos into one would be more of a photoshop manipulation than just posting one photo. But yes, the mods need to clarify this contest (I'd remove the "combine two photos" part, and leave the current entries alone - they're all beautiful!) ( 5 years and 2983 days ago )
JoeCacia: You are so right MossyB! But it is up to the Mods as you said! ( 5 years and 2983 days ago )
singhalshots: I agree with MossyB !! better to have it Sunrise or Sunset then having to club the two !! ( 5 years and 2983 days ago )
Contest Moderator: This contest is for 2 images side by side, a sunrise and a sunset taken from the one place. All other images will be removed. ( 5 years and 2983 days ago )
friiskiwi: Mossy, we have had lots of sunrise/sunset contests, this is interesting.
Taken from the same place? How close to the same place do you have to be?
In the guidelines it mentioned photos have to be taken on the same day, I assume that isn't necessary?

k5683: If I have a tripod set up in my driveway facing the south, I can turn my camera to my left and I would be facing the east. I take a picture of this in the A.M. for the sunrise. I keep my tripod in that same spot, or mark a big X so I know where it was, and turn to my right and I would be facing the west. I take a picture of this in the P.M. for the sunset. Open a new document and paste your sunrise and sunset NEXT to each other on this document and save it. If I want to get real technical, I can take a picture in the A.M. facing the east, then face my camera at a 45 degree angle up from the east, snap a shot at maybe 10 or Noon. Then point your camera straight up (90 degrees from east) and take a shot at maybe 2 or 3 p.m. Then point your camera 45 from the west and take a shot at maybe 6 or 7 p.m. Then take a picture in the P.M. facing the west. Put all 4 of these pictures in a program and make a panorama of the sky. ( 5 years and 2983 days ago )
drskn08: A silly question... Is it necessary to show the sun in the photographs. I mean if there are clouds blocking the sun or if the sun has Just set down then can such photographs be accepted ? ( 5 years and 2982 days ago )
k5683: I would suppose that would be okay because it has never been an issue with any other sunrise or sunset contest. ( 5 years and 2982 days ago )
UncleJimmy: Okies...if we chose to do the 'cool' all day pano thing...that is technically one 'stitched' image. if it's not 2 images, it will be removed? I'm not going through all the trouble to have my entry removed...is that ok or not? ( 5 years and 2982 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Friiskiwi, the sunrise and sunset have to be from the same "area", not necessarily the same spot. We don't want one taken in Alaska and the other taken in Japan.
Itsmymoment, A blended panorama showing the all day transition will be accepted. ( 5 years and 2982 days ago )
redimix: Why does it have to be both, why not one or the other, sunrise or sunset ( 5 years and 2981 days ago )
k5683: to show the difference between the two....I thought the description explained it enough. ( 5 years and 2981 days ago )
redimix: Im new at this and cant figure out how to upload both togeather ( 5 years and 2981 days ago )
iquraishi: redimix, try something different.. its a kinda of diptych contest but of sunrise and sunset. Additionally, this contest allows panoramic view of the scenarios if you can manage it. ( 5 years and 2981 days ago )
Artifakts: Redimix : you can stick them with photoshop or other image editing software. Just take a look at the other entries of this contest. ( 5 years and 2981 days ago )
drskn08: HEY ! i am UNABLE to upload files in this contest only... whereas i still can easily submit photos in different contests... help me please..! ( 5 years and 2978 days ago )
drskn08: I think the Title of this contest should be "Sunrise AND Sunset"... mods must have been tired of removing entries...lol ( 5 years and 2977 days ago )
k5683: well, if people would just read the directions slowly and fully..... ( 5 years and 2977 days ago )
drskn08: ya kellie.. truly said.. alas ! ( 5 years and 2977 days ago )
Contest Moderator: Submission time has closed. Any further entries will be removed. ( 5 years and 2976 days ago )
