In many cases with photography traces are captured by accident. A moving car could leave light traces, for example. It does not have to be just light traces. A photo can exhibit many kinds of traces or streaking patterns and just seem to make the photo subject more interesting.
In this photography contest, enter the most creative traces that you can capture. It might be by accident, or a staged shoot, but show us just how artistic traces can be (no photoshop). Also, the photo can be any subject you choose. If it has traces, it is on theme. Be creative and use your imagination.
This contest is about traces of light and moving objects which leave traces on the photo due to a longer shutter speed.
Good Luck!

Pretty cool trick, I am curious as to how you pulled this one off?
author says:
The brush is propped up with legos, I have a 3 color LED flashlight wrapped with tinfoil, and a speedlight with a snoot pointing at the brush. 5 sec exposure in pitch dark room, pulled the flashlight away from the brush making the "wave" line... once the flashlight was out of the shot... i triggered the flash (with a snoot on) at 1/4 power.
@ 6tann:
i've made thist witch an basket fillted with an assortment of wadding and steelwool. When you fire this mixure the steelwool begeins to glow and small glowing ferreous particles are flung out of the basket.

We had a family reunion and worked together to compose a bunch of these with different themes. The music notes were painted with a flashlight. Its staged yes but it does have traces of light. We used about a 30 second long shutter speed. (5 years and 2951 days ago)
Great idea ... Just a little thing to say : The two people on the ground shouldn't have been cuted. You should have include them entirely in the frame.
author says:
too late to fix it. It was a tough shoot. The guy playing the guitar had to move to the ground within the 30 seconds, after the music notes were painted.
NICE !! IMPRESSIVE TO THE MAX !! !! how did ya keep the 3 subjects motionless during the 30 seconds ?? and were all the notes "painted" by one person during the 30 seconds ??
and is the guy watching the guitar player also the guitar player? also why is the girls leg transparent ?? this is one freaky piece of visual art indeed. good luck on this
Is this a true photo or is it photoshopped? Trying to figure out how you did that. lol
author says:
Nope, its not photoshopped. Kinda nice to have confused a few with this. What we did was use a timer with an open shutter. While the shutter was open we had a person in charge of the flashlights, one would paint over the guy playing the guitar. we would then turn off the flashlight and paint the music notes, and finally, once they were done, we had the guitar player and his wife sit down and we ran the light over them. The legs weren't supposed to be transparent however any movement or too much light could have caused this. I assure everyone, its one photo, taken at one time.
author says:
Also the subjects only needed to remain motionless while the light was on.
tried to make single person appear at two or three places in a single pic using long exposure, but never got it such excellent contrast and sharpness of both the instances. Perfect lighting and exposure. Nice Work....
